The artificial intelligence startup Perplexity AI is releasing a demo promoting its advertising service. The company says its search app has over two million downloads and answers more than 230 million queries per month.
According to a source, Perplexity will follow a model called CPM, or cost per 1,000 ad impressions. CPM prices will be higher than $50. Initial primary advertising categories will include topics such as technology, health and pharmaceuticals, arts and entertainment, finance, as well as food and beverages.
Advertisers can also pay for "related questions" below the answers, or purchase ads displayed to the right of answers generated by Perplexity.

In April, Perplexity AI raised $62.7 million from existing investors, including Nvidia. The company was valued at over $1 billion, double its valuation from three months earlier.
However, the app's growing popularity has highlighted concerns surrounding how it obtains unauthorized content and data from the internet for commercial purposes, such as copyrighted articles to provide to users.
Last month, Perplexity launched a revenue-sharing model, giving news publishers the opportunity to monetize through the company's search engine. When users ask questions, Perplexity generates advertising revenue by quoting an article in its responses. Perplexity then shares a percentage of that revenue with the publishers.
