Associate Professor, Doctor, musician Nguyen Lan Cuong was born in 1941, originally from My Hao, Hung Yen . He is the fourth child of the late People's Teacher, Professor Nguyen Lan.

Musician Nguyen Lan Cuong came to music at a young age. In 1951, when he was only 10 years old, he was introduced to musical notes by three teachers, Chinese musician Tuc Nhan Kim and two Vietnamese musicians Pham Tuyen and Nguyen Huu Hieu. While studying at 3A High School (now Viet Duc High School - Hanoi), he was assigned to organize a choir and a choir, from which he composed his first song "Tieng hat ban Muong", then the choir "Tieng ca tren ra go".
He studied Biology at Hanoi University of Science (now the University of Natural Sciences , Vietnam National University, Hanoi), then chose to study archaeology, interning in Germany and Russia.
In the field of science, he was a senior researcher at the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology, and was recognized by the Vietnam Record as “The person who has researched the most ancient Vietnamese remains”. He held the positions of General Secretary of the Vietnam Archaeological Association, Vice President of the Vietnam Paleontological Stratigraphy Association, and Vice President of the Association of Non-Fiction Authors (VANFA).

In addition to archaeological research, Nguyen Lan Cuong is also a dedicated musician and has many valuable works. His compositional portfolio includes nearly 70 works, and has won dozens of music awards from the Vietnam Musicians Association, the Hanoi Music Association, the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), the National Traffic Safety Committee, the Hanoi Department of Justice, the Navy Command, etc.
His compositions are often related to life and easily touch people's hearts. Some examples include "Vietnam Wins" which is considered a "fan song" of Vietnamese football; "The General of the People's Hearts" about General Vo Nguyen Giap; "Election Day Ballot" aimed at the election day of National Assembly and People's Council deputies at all levels; "Song of the Island Soldiers" praising navy soldiers; "This Afternoon If You Don't Come Back" based on the poem by Vu Tuan, praising the "white-shirt soldiers" in Covid-19...
Musician Lan Cuong also has many works about Hanoi, where he is attached to and develops his scientific and musical career, such as “Emotions of the Imperial City”, “Thang Long - Flying Dragon”, “Capital Team Members Deeply Remember Uncle Ho’s Teachings”, “Hello Thang Long - My Hanoi”… He also arranged the song “Hanoi People” by Nguyen Dinh Thi for 4-part choir.
He also has outstanding compositions for children such as: "My doll", "Red light stop, green light go", "Three points 10", "Uncle soldier teaches me to read", "What job do you want to do?"... In 2021, he released the book "Diary on the Sol key" recording his musical journey.
Musician Nguyen Lan Cuong used to hold the position of Permanent Vice President of the Hanoi Music Association, and was also the founder and conductor of the Hanoi Harmony Choir, which performed in many musical events in the capital...
