On November 1, according to information from the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of Hai Duong Provincial Police, this unit has just cracked down on a case of illegal online trading of SIM cards with OTP codes in large quantities.
Previously, on October 7, through the work of grasping the situation on cyberspace, the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of Hai Duong Provincial Police discovered that a young man named NTA (24 years old, residing in Hai Duong City, Hai Duong Province) illegally bought and sold SIM cards online with OTP codes in large quantities in Hai Duong, involving many localities nationwide.
Around the beginning of August 2023, NTA contacted NXG and NLAK (both residing in Ho Chi Minh City) via social networks, discussed and used a website to buy and sell SIM cards online with OTP codes (these SIM cards had been activated with non-owner subscriber information, each SIM card was issued with 1-4 OTP codes) to make a profit.
Some evidence of the case was seized by the police.
Authorities have clarified that from September 27 to October 7, the NTA group bought and sold 71,950 SIM cards online, issuing 158,524 OTP codes from the following networks: Vietnamobile, Viettel, Mobifone, Vinaphone with a total of 29 agents and 99 buyer accounts nationwide, earning a profit of more than 143.7 million VND.
At the police station, NTA and related people admitted to the violations. The police managed to seize related items including: 60,290 physical SIM cards; 40 GSM devices for inserting physical SIMs; 9 computers, laptops; 4 computers; 12 mobile phones.
The case is being investigated and expanded by the police.
