The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans -Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and the European Union (EU) Trade and Investment Dialogue Conference was attended by CPTPP member Ministers and the EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security.

At the meeting, CPTPP members and the EU focused on discussing three contents:
One is to strengthen cooperation between the CPTPP and the EU in responding to global trade challenges, including supporting an open, rules-based multilateral trading system with the WTO at its core, and reforming the WTO.
Second, what are the priority areas of cooperation between CPTPP and the EU to facilitate trade and increase competitiveness in the current trade and investment context?

Third is to discuss areas of cooperation between the CPTPP and the EU, including but not limited to: Trade diversification, including promoting trade in goods and services between the CPTPP and the EU; digital trade; trade and investment facilitation, including non-tariff measures, customs and border measures; and supply chain resilience.
Speaking at the conference, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien said that CPTPP and the EU have great potential to coordinate in developing strategic supply chains, especially in the fields of semiconductors, energy, agriculture , etc.

“ I propose that the two sides establish an early warning mechanism to respond to supply chain disruptions and strengthen cooperation on ESG standards, traceability and prevention of origin fraud, ” said Minister Nguyen Hong Dien.
According to the Minister, promoting market access and regulatory harmonization is key to expanding two-way trade. The two sides can step up technical dialogue on technical barriers and SPS measures; and consider expanding mutual recognition in a number of priority areas such as agricultural products and processed foods.

“ We welcome European businesses to expand their investment in high technology, renewable energy, logistics and smart infrastructure. I propose to establish an Investment Facilitation Dialogue Mechanism between the two blocs, to resolve business difficulties, promote PPP projects and attract green capital for sustainable development ,” the Minister of Industry and Trade emphasized.
In addition, cooperation on digital transformation and green economy should be seen as strategic pillars. We can create a cooperation framework on digital trade, data, AI and cybersecurity; and closely coordinate in developing renewable energy, offshore wind power, hydrogen and carbon credit markets.

“ CPTPP and the EU need to continue to coordinate their positions at multilateral forums, especially in the WTO reform process, promoting green trade, ensuring supply chain security and addressing global challenges. I believe that close cooperation between the two sides will contribute positively to the recovery of global growth ,” the Minister said.
