On October 16 in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communications decided to issue and coordinate with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India, the Embassy of India in Vietnam and the Vietnam Post Corporation to organize a special issuance ceremony of the postage stamp set "Vietnam - India Joint Issue Stamps".
Attending the event were Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son and Indian Foreign Minister Jaishanka.
On January 7, 1972, Vietnam and India officially established full diplomatic relations and were upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2016. Vietnam and India have a long-standing close and warm friendship. Mahatma Gandhi and President Ho Chi Minh are great monuments of the Indian and Vietnamese people, both affectionately called the father of the nation, who led the people of the two countries in the cause of national liberation.
In order to contribute to introducing and promoting the image of the country, people and culture of the two nations, the Ministry of Information and Communications of Vietnam and the Ministry of Communications of India decided to issue the stamp set "Vietnam - India Joint Stamps" consisting of 02 stamp designs, in which Vietnam introduces Vovinam martial art and India introduces Kalarippayattu martial art. Artists from each country will design their own stamp designs and exchange to combine them into a set of 2 stamp designs.
Model 2-1: Kalaripayattu, also known simply as Kalari, is an Indian martial art that originated in present-day Kerala, a state on the southwest coast of India. Kalaripayattu is known for its long history in Indian martial arts spanning over 3,000 years. Kalaripayattu developed into its current form in the 6th century during the long war between the Chera and Chola dynasties. Kalaripayattu involves punching, kicking, throwing, using weapons, and treating injuries. In this martial art, dexterity, speed, and agility are the factors that determine the outcome of a fight.
Sample 2-2: Introducing the martial art Vovinam (full name is Vovinam Viet Vo Dao) founded by martial artist Nguyen Loc in 1936, with the desire to improve the self-defense and fighting ability of the Vietnamese people in the fight against French colonialism. Vovinam was developed based on traditional Vietnamese wrestling, combining the quintessence of other martial arts in the world, famous for its neck-gripping and high-flying punches. After many ups and downs, today, Vovinam has gradually become one of the typical cultural features, strongly popularized nationwide and is being introduced internationally, contributing to promoting the image of the country and people of Vietnam. The stamp uses a blue background to create harmony with the color of the martial arts uniform and the flexibility of the martial arts moves.
The stamp set was designed by artist Brahma Prakash (India) and artist Pham Trung Ha (Vietnam), with face values of 4,000 VND and 15,000 VND, stamp size 43 x 32 (mm), and will be available on the postal network from October 16, 2023 to June 30, 2025.
