When passion meets responsibility
Reporter Thac Hieu (People's Representative Newspaper) still remembers the first rehearsal of the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025). Under the pouring rain, he and his colleagues persistently recorded every step and every historical image, their shirts soaked but their hearts burning with fire. "I am no longer an outsider but a part of the event, a person who is contributing to preserving history through every frame and word. When my articles and photo reports received sympathy from readers, I truly felt like I was born to be a journalist," Hieu said.

According to reporter Thac Hieu, many years of working as a journalist have given him the opportunity to learn many valuable things. “Through each interview, each conversation, I have the opportunity to meet people with deep expertise and extensive experience in many fields from economics , education, health to environment and culture. Each story they share, each professional analysis or life experience gives me useful knowledge and multi-dimensional perspectives. There are things that if I did not work as a journalist, I would never have the opportunity to hear and understand so deeply. Journalism, therefore, is both a profession and an ever-expanding school, where I learn from life, from experts, from people and even from colleagues,” Thac Hieu shared.
With the enthusiasm of a young person who is dedicating himself to his profession, according to Thac Hieu, journalism is not just about writing well, but also about living fully in every moment, about dialogue with challenges, about engaging in events, to bring the truth to the public. “Journalism also gives me the opportunity to listen, not only to stories but also to the thoughts and lives of thousands of people. That has helped me grow not only in my profession but also in my thinking as a human being,” Thac Hieu confided.
Unlike previous generations, young journalists today enter the profession with a special baggage, which is the ability to master technology. Young reporter Duy Hieu (Znews e-newspaper) is a typical example of the convergence of traditional skills and modern thinking. With an open, creative approach and proactiveness in exploiting topics, he is creating journalistic products rich in humanity and depth.
“For me, experience is the most important thing. Being a journalist gives me the opportunity to go everywhere, from polluted landfills to luxurious conferences, and witness things that I would never have seen if I had not been a journalist,” Duy Hieu shared. In particular, the experience of working during historical times such as the COVID-19 pandemic or important national events such as the recent April 30th celebration are “real-life classes” that no textbook can replace.
“Going to the field hospital, wearing protective gear, passing through a series of checkpoints… all of this is not simply reporting news, but demonstrating the social responsibility of a journalist. When facing danger, I understand that enthusiasm is what keeps me steadfast,” Duy Hieu said.
In the context of the press having to compete fiercely with social networks and many instant information platforms, young reporter Duy Hieu still believes in the unique strength of the profession: “The difference of the press is that it is a place to preserve authenticity and human values. I can do a breaking news like anyone else, but if I don't breathe human life into it, it is just a piece of a puzzle lacking a soul”. According to him, young people need to always proactively choose their own path: being loyal to the core values of truth and kindness while seeking new, creative, attractive and suitable ways of expression for today's young readers.
“Compared to the previous generation, young journalists today have the advantage of technology, easily accessing and mastering digital platforms, applying AI, Big Data, IoT to their work, creating visual journalism products, data journalism, etc. But no matter how modern journalism is, I still believe that the core of the profession is always integrity and the spirit of serving society. Journalism is not just a pen, computer, camera or news editing software, but an attitude - an attitude towards the truth, towards readers and towards oneself,” Duy Hieu commented.
Contribute to the 100-year journey
Young journalists today are continuing the glorious tradition of journalism with their enthusiastic and responsible spirit. They are not afraid to face difficulties and hardships, and are ready to be present at any time, even at dangerous hotspots, to promptly record and reflect each event honestly and objectively.
“If I could choose again, I would still choose journalism,” reporter Thac Hieu affirmed. As for young reporter Duy Hieu, journalism is not for the glamour, but this is a job that gives him the feeling of living a righteous life, a life that is useful to society.

The common points that are easily seen in young journalists today are openness in thinking, initiative in work and continuous learning. They approach old topics with a new perspective, master technology and flexibly apply modern tools to improve the quality of their work. However, what makes them different and trusted by the public is their professional qualities: integrity, objectivity and humanity.
Passion for the profession, as reporters share, is not only in the working attitude but also reflected in the final results of works that are profound, creative, and have practical value. "No one remembers how long you work or how many people you interview, but if your work touches the emotions of readers, that is the greatest success," reporter Duy Hieu emphasized.
In a world that is changing every second with technology, young journalists still quietly keep the fire burning, carrying with them the desire to contribute, to live fully with their professional ideals. They are the embodiment of a generation of modern journalists who are not afraid of challenges, not afraid of differences and always put people at the center of the story. They are the ones who are contributing to the extension of the glorious 100-year journey of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism with all their love for the profession and deep social responsibility.
