On the afternoon of May 14, the Department of Market Management and Development ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) informed that the authorities had just discovered and seized 800kg of frozen food of unknown origin, mainly animal organs such as young chicken eggs and chicken intestines - one of the goods with a high risk of causing food safety problems in Hanoi.

Specifically, Market Management Team No. 17 coordinated with Team 6 - Economic Police Department (PC03), Hanoi City Police to suddenly inspect a goods gathering point at the land opposite Lane 197, Thuy Linh Street, Linh Nam Ward, Hoang Mai District on May 13.

Here, the authorities discovered 20 sealed foam boxes containing 800kg of unlabeled chicken eggs and chicken intestines, without manufacturer information or documents proving their origin.

According to a representative of Market Management Team No. 17, if not properly preserved, offal foods can easily contain pathogenic bacteria and chemical residues, posing serious risks to public health. Inspecting and strictly handling cases of trading in foods of unknown origin is a key task in the Action Month for Food Safety in 2025.

The entire shipment was recorded, sealed and taken to a cold storage facility in Hai Ba Trung district for investigation. This is not an isolated incident.

The Department of Market Management and Development also said that in Nghe An province, market management forces had just discovered nearly 500kg of chicken feet and pig tails of unknown origin at NK Clean Food Import-Export Company Limited (Vinh City) on May 13. The owner of the facility could not present invoices and documents. Market Management Team No. 3 imposed a fine of 34 million VND and confiscated all the violating goods.

According to the Department of Market Management and Development, recently, authorities have continuously discovered cases of transporting and trading smuggled or unknown origin frozen foods, many cases amounting to tons.

In April and early May 2025, authorities in Hanoi continuously discovered and seized dozens of tons of frozen food of unknown origin, mainly animal organs.

On April 21, in Thuong Tin district, about 20 tons of frozen chicken, salted chicken and poultry organs without documents proving their origin were discovered (the largest case since the beginning of the year).

On the night of April 28, in Tri Thuy commune, Phu Xuyen district, authorities continued to discover more than 10 tons of buffalo and cow organs showing signs of damage and odor, stored in 3 cold storages.

On May 5, in Thanh Tri district, more than 7 tons of frozen food including immature eggs, chicken eggs, pork brains and pig intestines without invoices or documents proving their origin were also discovered and temporarily seized.

These items are often consumed strongly in restaurants and popular shops, especially during peak holiday and summer seasons, when consumer demand increases.
