The 5th political contest on protecting the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile viewpoints was organized by the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics in coordination with the Central Propaganda Department, Nhan Dan Newspaper, Communist Magazine, Vietnam Television, Vietnam Journalists Association and relevant agencies.
Besides the press reporters, there was also the enthusiastic participation of many non-professional authors, including scientists , teachers, retired officials, armed forces and the young generation.
This strong response has created a solid "national position" on the ideological front, bringing Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW of the Politburo on strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile views in the new situation (referred to as Resolution No. 35) into practical life.
The quality of the works has been clearly improved, with a sharp balance between "fighting" and "constructive" qualities, providing vivid practical perspectives, affirming the self-awareness and responsibility of the whole society in the cause of protecting the Party and the regime.
From urgent practical requirements
Professor-Doctor Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Chairman of the Central Theoretical Council, Head of the Competition Steering Committee, said that after 4 successful organization times, the political contest on protecting the Party's ideological foundation has truly affirmed its position, role, identity and prestige.
The success of the contest is a highlight in the overall activities to implement Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW, demonstrating the important role in strengthening the Party building work, building a clean and strong political system in all aspects, contributing to preparing the conditions and foundations for the country to firmly enter a new era of development - the era of national growth.
Professor-Doctor Nguyen Xuan Thang emphasized that this political contest is one of the key tasks of the Central Steering Committee 35 in 2025, deployed in the entire system of Steering Committee 35 agencies, units and localities across the country.
In the context of the world and regional situation continuing to develop in a complex and unpredictable manner, the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the explosion of social media have created both opportunities and challenges. Hostile, reactionary, and political opportunistic forces have never abandoned their plots and tricks of "peaceful evolution," promoting "self-evolution," and "self-transformation."

Faced with that reality, Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW dated October 22, 2018 of the 12th Politburo on "Strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile views in the new situation" has strategic significance.
Organizing the annual Political Contest is one of the most fundamental, creative and effective solutions to bring Resolution 35 into life.
Through 5 times of organization, the Contest has proven its position as a prestigious "brand", a particularly sharp "weapon" on the ideological front. If in the first years, the Contest focused on "launching" and "arousing", then by the 5th time, the Contest has reached "maturity" in quality, an explosion in scale and depth of influence.
Impressions from scale and wide spread
One of the most remarkable successes of the 5th Competition was the scale and diversity of the participating authors and works. Statistics from the Organizing Committee showed a remarkable increase in the number of entries compared to previous years.
Associate Professor-PhD Duong Trung Y, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, Head of the Organizing Committee of the Contest, said that the 2025 Political Contest on Protecting the Party's Ideological Foundation has a total of nearly 542,000 entries.

The preliminary round jury unanimously selected 378 entries for the final round, including: 140 magazine works, 134 newspaper works, 39 radio works, 37 television works, and 28 video clip works.
The contest received 21 entries from foreign authors from China, Laos, Italy, and Sweden.
What is worth appreciating is the enthusiastic and serious response of the political system from the Central to the grassroots level. Many localities and units have organized their own preliminary rounds, selecting the best quality works to submit to the Central level competition, turning the Contest into a vibrant emulation movement right at the grassroots level.
The brightest point is the composition of the authors. If in the past, the core force participating was mainly journalists, reporters, and editors at news agencies and newspapers, now the "map" of authors has been significantly expanded.
We see the participation of scientists, teachers, researchers at academies, universities, and research institutes; of cadres and party members working at Party, State, Fatherland Front agencies, and socio-political organizations.
In particular, there was active participation of the people's armed forces - the "soldiers" on the ideological front; of retired cadres and veterans - people with rich practical experience; and fortunately, there was the presence of the young generation, including students, union members and youth.
This diversity not only enriches the number of works, but more importantly, also brings multi-dimensional perspectives and vivid arguments from the breath of life, from work practices and experiences of each person.
"Fighting" goes hand in hand with "building"
If scale shows influence, then the quality of the entries for the 5th edition shows depth of awareness and serious intellectual investment.
In terms of "fighting," the works clearly demonstrate the spirit of "sharp pen, pure heart," directly fighting and uncompromisingly refuting the wrong viewpoints and distorted arguments of hostile forces.
Many works have "named and exposed" new plots and tricks in cyberspace, and manifestations of "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the organization. The arguments presented are sharp, based on solid scientific theory and convincing practical evidence, effectively "detoxifying" information, helping readers and viewers clearly identify right from wrong.
In terms of construction, this is a great step forward for this Contest. The authors do not just stop at "refuting" but also focus strongly on "affirming."
Many articles have deeply analyzed, clarified and defended the lasting values of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh's thought; affirmed the correctness, science and revolution in the Party's renovation policy, especially the great and historical achievements of the country after nearly 40 years of renovation and the results of implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress.
The works do not only speak dryly of theory, but also put theory into practice. Many authors have boldly proposed solutions, good models, and creative approaches in the work of Party building and rectification, in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality, and style, and in the work of protecting the Party's ideological foundation at the grassroots level.
In addition, the form of expression has also been innovated and creative. In addition to traditional political articles, the appearance of multimedia works (long-form, infographics, video clips, podcasts...) with modern, youthful and attractive expressions has helped political content that was considered "difficult" and "dry" become more accessible, easier to understand and have a stronger influence on digital platforms, especially among young people.

The 5th contest sets higher requirements for the next stage. Reality requires us to continue improving the quality of the works, avoiding the situation where some articles are still "formulaic", cliché, lacking new discoveries or interpretations of high practical value.
It is necessary to further encourage works that discover and predict new plots and tricks of hostile forces.
The more important issue is how to "weaponize" award-winning and high-quality works into core propaganda materials. Therefore, it is necessary to re-edit and develop them in many forms (infographics, short videos, books, etc.) to spread more widely in society, and include them in party cell meeting documents, political and extracurricular activities.
In addition, it is necessary to continue to discover, nurture, gather and create conditions for non-professional writers. They are the core nuclei to build and expand the people's front in each agency, unit and locality.
The award ceremony of the 5th Political Contest to Protect the Party's Ideological Foundation in 2025 will be held on the evening of October 22, 2025, in Hanoi, on the occasion of the 7th anniversary of the Politburo's issuance of Resolution No. 35-NQ/TW dated October 22, 2018 on strengthening the protection of the Party's ideological foundation and fighting against erroneous and hostile views in the new situation.
The 5th political contest on protecting the Party's ideological foundation is not only about quantity or awards, but also about arousing and gathering the combined strength of the entire people; affirming the strong vitality of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh thought and the Party's innovation path; at the same time demonstrating the consensus, "Party's will, people's heart" and the people's steadfast belief in the revolutionary cause./.
