Developing a professional and modern Vietnamese traditional medicine industry

NDO - Building a strategy for developing the cultivation and processing of medicinal herbs, applying advanced technology to the production of traditional medicine products, applying digital technology and AI technology to the management of medical examination and treatment... is the direction that the Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Group is implementing to promote the development of Vietnamese traditional medicine, creating medicinal products with national brands.

Towards the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), on the morning of April 28, the Vietnam Traditional Medicine and Pharmaceutical Fair and Exhibition 2025 organized by the Vietnam Traditional Medicine and Pharmaceutical Group opened at Tuan Chau Eco- tourism Area (Sai ​​Son, Quoc Oai, Hanoi).

Building a strategy for developing the cultivation and processing of Vietnamese medicinal herbs

Speaking at the event, Major General, People's Physician, Dr. Do The Loc, Vice President of the Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Group, said that the potential of Vietnamese traditional medicine is still enormous, but we have not yet exploited and developed it properly. To contribute to promoting the strengths and great potential of Vietnamese traditional medicine, Mr. Dao Hong Tuyen decided to establish the Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Group.

Vietnam Oriental Medicine Group has invited experts, scientists, centers, research institutes, organizations, individuals and businesses to develop a strategy for developing medicinal herb cultivation and processing, applying advanced technology to the production of traditional medicine products, and applying digital technology and AI technology to medical examination and treatment management.

With thousands of years of knowledge and experience in medical examination and treatment of 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups, with a very rich source of medicinal herbs, over 5,000 species of medicinal plants spread across the territory of Vietnam, along with AI technology, the Group wants to bring Vietnamese traditional medicine to a new level, affirming its position domestically and internationally, and accompanying the entire medical industry to move forward steadily in the era of the Vietnamese people's rise.

The Vice President of the Vietnam Oriental Medicine Group said that the Group will build a park of statues of famous doctors in the country and the world; build an outdoor conservation area for precious medicinal plants; a museum of medicinal plant specimens and a museum of historical artifacts of Vietnamese Traditional Medicine; build hospitals, specialized medical schools, research institutes, and health resorts.

In addition, the Group, together with research institutes and hospitals, builds research topics on valuable medicinal recipes of ethnic minorities to become products with national brands.

"We have cooperated with domestic and foreign enterprises to apply modern technology to production and processing, and together with localities to build GACP-standard raw material areas in some provinces," said Mr. Loc.

Major General, People's Physician, Doctor Do The Loc, Vice President of Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Group, said that the Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Quintessence Fair-Exhibition 2025 is the first large-scale event organized by the Group to honor Vietnamese traditional medicine, preserve and develop valuable remedies, and apply oriental medicine in the fields of health care and aesthetics.

The fair includes 117 booths, displaying precious medicinal herbs and traditional medicine products from many prestigious units and localities across the country. In addition, the event also organizes 3 major seminars and talks on the quintessence of traditional medicine, with speakers being leading experts in the field of oriental medicine sharing knowledge, exchanging experiences and discussing the combination of traditional and modern medicine.

The 2025 Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Fair and Exhibition will take place from April 28 to May 4.

This is an opportunity for visitors to meet experts, learn more about the value of traditional medicine and discover solutions for healthy living.

An important highlight of the exhibition is the program of signing cooperation agreements with domestic and foreign partners to promote the development of traditional medicine on a broader scale. The cooperation agreements will open up opportunities for exchange, knowledge sharing and research on trade promotion applications between international traditional medicine organizations and domestic units.

Notably, at the program, Yangzi Jiang Group - one of the largest traditional Chinese medicine groups in China signed with Vietnam Traditional Chinese Medicine Group to invest in growing areas, processing technology areas, production technology, digital technology, AI technology and two-way product exchange between Vietnam and China.

In addition, Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Group has also signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement with: Thai Nguyen Province; Vietnam Association of Essential Oils, Aromatherapy and Cosmetics; Institute of Medicinal Materials - Ministry of Health; Sao Thai Duong Joint Stock Company; FDA High-Tech Factory.

Further improve the quality of traditional medicine in the country

Speaking at the program, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen The Thinh, Director of the Department of Traditional Medicine Management, Ministry of Health, said that in recent years, the traditional medicine industry has developed in parallel with Western medicine and has made significant contributions to people's health care. However, the development of this industry is not commensurate with Vietnam's long history and precious medicinal resources.

In order for the Vietnamese traditional medicine industry to develop more strongly, Mr. Nguyen The Thinh proposed that the Vietnam Traditional Medicine and Pharmaceutical Group continue to properly implement the Party and State's policies and guidelines on the development of traditional medicine and pharmacy, and further improve people's health care.

“The Associations of Vietnamese Traditional Medicine, Vietnamese Oriental Medicine and especially the Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmaceutical Group should strengthen the gathering of scientists and intellectuals who love traditional medicine to develop scientific research, gradually proactively demonstrate the capacity and promote the strengths and true values ​​of traditional medicine.

Besides, associations need to develop domestic resources; increase investment calls, comprehensive cooperation with international partners, especially China in traditional medicine; raise awareness and provide more in-depth training in traditional medicine,” Mr. Thinh said.

In particular, the Director of the Department of Traditional Medicine Management suggested that associations and unions need to resolutely fight against all acts of taking advantage of traditional medicine to impersonate traditional medicine for profit and tarnishing the image of traditional medicine.

Within the framework of the 2025 Vietnam Oriental Medicine and Pharmacy Fair and Exhibition, there will be a seminar with 3 topics:

- The relationship of traditional medicine with mental illness, physical illness and karmic illness and solutions to help the body be healthy, the mind be peaceful and the mind be bright

- Vietnam's medicinal herbs market - current situation and solutions

- Preserve, inherit and develop medicinal plants and valuable folk remedies.
