(kontumtv.vn) – In recent years, the area of durian trees in the province has been expanding. Up to now , the whole province has nearly 3.580 hectares of durian ; of which about 875 hectares have been harvested. Although durian is a crop with high economic value at this time , however , the authorities recommend that people should not plant it en masse .

The Project on Sustainable Fruit Tree Development in Kon Tum Province to 2025, with a vision to 2030, identifies durian as the key crop. The project aims to achieve about 15,000 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds by 2030, including durian. In 2024, the province aims to plant 500 hectares of new durian, and to date, more than 1,020 hectares have been newly planted, reaching more than 204% of the plan. The rapid increase in the area of newly planted durian has led to concerns about the prospect of supply exceeding demand and unstable prices. Mr. Nguyen Hoai Tam - Head of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection said: " The current situation of durian development in the province is basically going in the right direction and in line with the province's policy. However, to avoid people from growing durian spontaneously , the agricultural sector has also coordinated with the People's Committees of districts and cities to recommend that people should not grow durian en masse but should focus on developing places with suitable soil and climate conditions for the growth and development of durian trees to create concentrated growing areas, large enough to meet the conditions for granting growing area codes, and at the same time create favorable conditions to attract businesses inside and outside the province to build packaging facilities as well as frozen processing for future export . "

Currently, the durian varieties grown in the province are mainly Ri 6, Musang King, and Mon Thong. These varieties basically grow and develop well, are suitable for the soil conditions of Kon Tum province, and have high productivity and good quality, suitable for the tastes of domestic consumers and for export./.
