Vietnam has successfully produced two types of vaccines to prevent African swine fever.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, thanks to technical support, especially the transfer of virus strains to produce African swine fever vaccines from American scientists, Vietnam has successfully produced two types of vaccines, including: NAVET-ASFVAC (of the Central Veterinary Medicine Joint Stock Company - NAVETCO) and AVAC ASF LIVE (of AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company).

In particular, the AVAC ASF LIVE vaccine was injected into pigs in the Philippines and underwent a careful evaluation process. Philippine authorities have recognized the use of this vaccine as safe. 100% of vaccinated pigs had an immune response to produce antibodies. Philippine authorities are urging businesses in this country to complete the registration procedures for importing African swine fever vaccines from Vietnam.

Regarding the NAVET-ASFVAC vaccine, at the request of the Dominican Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development supports, sends experts and coordinates the vaccination of this vaccine in Dominica. To date, the Dominican Ministry of Agriculture has sent a letter of thanks and wishes to continue receiving support and moving towards purchasing this vaccine.

Also according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in April and May, a team of experts from the US Department of Agriculture conducted an independent assessment based on the results of research, production, testing, trials, licensing and monitoring of vaccine use in Vietnam. The US experts affirmed that the results of research and production of African swine fever vaccine in Vietnam are similar to the results of research in the US.

Vietnam's work of organizing the assessment and quality control of African swine fever vaccines (sterility, safety and effectiveness) is in accordance with international standards, including vaccine quality assessment standards developed by scientists and submitted to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) for consideration and approval.

Domestically, by July, more than 650,000 doses of the two vaccines mentioned above had been quality controlled and used safely in more than 40 provinces and cities. The vaccinated pigs were all healthy and grew normally, the rate of vaccinated pigs with high antibody response reached over 95%.

In the above document, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development requested localities to direct specialized agencies to advise on the use of African swine fever vaccines to prevent and control the disease; organize sample collection for monitoring and evaluation after vaccination.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development also requires businesses to continue to monitor quality and be responsible for the quality of vaccines when supplying them to the market; have response plans and be ready to overcome risks when using African swine fever vaccines.
