After less than 2 weeks of release, Thu Trang's "Billion Dollar Kiss" joined the club of Vietnamese films with revenue of hundreds of billions of dong.
According to Box Office Vietnam data on the morning of February 7, the movie Billionaire Kiss has reached the 100 billion VND mark in revenue. On February 6, the film also led the revenue of the day, surpassing Tran Thanh's work. Although there were fewer screenings, Thu Trang's film still "overtook" The Guardian Quartet in both key metrics: ticket sales and revenue.
With good effects, many people expect Billionaire Kiss will reach 150 billion VND in the near future.
Meanwhile, Tran Thanh's film revenue after a week of consecutive increase has shown signs of slowing down, but there is still hope of surpassing the 300 billion VND mark. The current total revenue of The Guardian Quartet and Billionaire Kiss respectively 267.1 billion VND and 100.2 billion VND.
Billionaire Kiss increased dramatically in screenings after the Tet holiday. On the first day of Tet, the film was only scheduled to be shown about 1,600 times, selling 18,800 tickets, with revenue falling to 1.8 billion VND/day. Meanwhile, The Guardian Quartet earned about 25 billion VND thanks to selling 235,645 tickets from 4,905 screenings.
After that, Thu Trang's film continuously increased its screenings and now has 3,400 screenings, double the opening stage. This increase comes from the audience's effect on social networks. Viewers highly appreciate this work because of its gentle, lovely script and easy-to-understand message. The cast, although not too excellent, does not make the audience uncomfortable. In particular, the film's two endings that make the audience "blindly open their bags" is also an interesting way to make the film more discussed.
Thu Trang has carefully prepared the process of choosing actors to suit the character's story. Her trust in Doan Thien An - Le Xuan Tien - Ma Ran Do for the main roles surprised many people, even considered it reckless. But Thu Trang believes in her decision.
Regarding choosing Miss Doan Thien An as the main character, Thu Trang said: “If An was just a beauty queen, I wouldn't have chosen her. I chose An because she is capable and acts well. As soon as I chose Thien An, I had 100% confidence in my decision."
The Billion Dollar Kiss is the first film directed by Thu Trang. She said she wanted to create a film with her own personality.
The film revolves around the sisters Kieu (Thu Trang) - Van (Thien An) and their troubles related to love. Because of trusting the playboy Dat (Huy Khanh), Kieu lost all her savings and even mortgaged her house to gangsters. To have money to redeem the house, Kieu asked Van to marry a rich man. After that, Van fell into a love triangle with two rich young men, Quang and Tu.
