Dried fish village celebrates Tet
“Every year, around the 10th lunar month, the dried fish village in Cai Doi Vam town reaches its peak of activity, due to high demand and good prices for its products. Currently, production facilities are paying more attention to design, quality and product diversity to meet the needs of customers during Tet,” said Mr. Le Van Muc, Hamlet 4, a household that has been making dried fish for many years.
Mr. Le Van Muc's family has been in the dried fish business for many years, especially dried anchovy.
Mr. Le Minh Canh informed: “Currently, the dried fish village in Cai Doi Vam town has 16 enterprises, cooperatives and more than 150 households producing and trading dried fish products. Many enterprises and households have high profits, with annual revenue from 200 million to 1 billion VND. Not only does it bring high income to people, the traditional dried fish profession also creates a unique cultural feature of the coastal area of Cai Doi Vam”.
The coastal city of Cai Doi Vam is increasingly bustling.
Among the famous products of Cai Doi Vam, dried fish is the most famous specialty. Mr. Muc shared: “To make delicious dried fish, you need a secret. Especially, you have to keep the fish pure, clean, dry it in the sun on the rack, and preserve it properly”.
Ms. Thai Thi Phan, Hamlet 4, who has nearly 20 years of experience in processing dried fish, said: "During Tet, my family often doubles or triples the output of dried fish compared to normal days, to supply the market everywhere in time."
Future from the sea
Cai Doi Vam town currently has 232 fishing vessels, of which 79 are 15 m or longer, basically meeting the raw material needs of local dried fish processing facilities. Business, trade and service activities in the town center are bustling, with 21 enterprises and 849 production and business establishments; many establishments and enterprises are associated with the local marine economic strengths.
The profession of drying sea fish in Cai Doi Vam town creates jobs for local people.
Mr. Le Minh Canh said: "Of the 4 OCOP products, there is 1 product that has achieved 4 stars, which is Ngoc Tran fish sauce of Ngoc Tran Cooperative, the remaining 3 products have achieved 3 stars, including: mackerel cake, lemongrass and turmeric marinated mackerel of Ngoc Tran Cooperative and dried shrimp of Huong Bien Cooperative".
According to Mr. Canh, the OCOP product development program is a favorable opportunity to help people participate in the production chain, increase product value, and promote the development of agricultural and rural economy in an effective and sustainable manner. The construction and development of OCOP products in Cai Doi Vam town has promoted the potential and strengths of the locality.
Cai Doi Vam is currently joining the innovation and development of Phu Tan homeland, as affirmed by Mr. Le Minh Canh: "Promoting the advantages and potential of the marine economy, Cai Doi Vam will make more efforts to develop the socio-economy, contributing to soon making Phu Tan a new rural district"./.
