Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai held talks with the First Vice Chairman of the Greek Parliament.

Within the framework of his official visit to Greece, on September 30, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai held talks with First Vice Chairman of the Greek Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis.

At the talks, in an open, trusting and friendly atmosphere, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai expressed his joy at visiting the beautiful and hospitable country of Greece for the first time and thanked the Greek Parliament for the respectful, warm and friendly welcome given to the Vietnamese delegation.

The Vice Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized that the visit was also an opportunity for Vietnam to express its respect and remember the valuable support and assistance that Greece gave to Vietnam during the years of struggle for independence and freedom, including heroes like Mr. Kostas Sarantidis - Nguyen Van Lap; and thank Greece for providing 250,000 doses of vaccine to help Vietnam prevent the Covid-19 pandemic.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai affirmed that Vietnam always attaches importance to developing friendly relations and multifaceted cooperation with Greece; congratulated Greece on its outstanding achievements in socio -economic development in 2025, as well as its active role in the international arena as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2025-2026 term; and emphasized the strong determination of the State and National Assembly of Vietnam to further deepen cooperation between the two countries' legislative bodies in particular and the friendly relations between Vietnam and Greece in general.

The First Vice President of the Greek National Assembly congratulated Vietnam on successfully organizing the 80th National Day celebration; highly appreciated the significance of the visit of Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai as the first exchange of delegations at the level of the National Assembly leaders between the two countries in more than 10 years, taking place right on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (1975 - 2025).

Expressing his impression of Vietnam's strong socio-economic development in recent years, the First Vice President of the Greek Parliament emphasized that Vietnam is Greece's leading important partner in Southeast Asia; affirmed the desire to comprehensively promote cooperation between the two countries on both parliamentary and government channels and said that bilateral relations still have much room for development, especially after the Vietnam - EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) is signed.

The First Vice President of the Greek Parliament also said that although the two countries are geographically distant, their approaches to solving challenges and difficulties are quite similar, and they both respect international law and the International Convention on the Law of the Sea. Greece has many strengths in agricultural production, maritime transport and energy industry. Therefore, the First Vice President of the Greek Parliament hopes that Greek businesses will have the opportunity to access the Vietnamese market.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the positive developments between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the Greek National Assembly in particular, and the two countries in general, through maintaining delegation exchanges and contacts at all levels, including delegations of specialized committees of the National Assembly; emphasizing that 2025 is a special year in Vietnam - Greece relations, with the two sides celebrating the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with many practical activities organized in each country.

The two sides agreed to promote the exchange of high-level delegations, as well as increase contacts and delegation exchanges between the two countries' National Assemblies, especially the leaders of the National Assemblies and the Friendship Parliamentarians' Groups, to exchange information and experience in the fields of legislation, supervision, and building legal frameworks to promote cooperation in areas with much room, in line with the development needs of the two countries such as labor, renewable energy, green transformation, digital transformation, financial technology, etc.; maintain existing bilateral cooperation mechanisms, support each other's initiatives, strengthen coordination at multilateral and international forums and regional and world inter-parliamentary forums such as IPU, ASEP, APF to contribute to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai suggested that the Greek National Assembly study the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement between the two countries' parliaments to establish a cooperation mechanism, as a basis for enhancing exchanges and promoting cooperation between the two legislative bodies in a sustainable, effective and substantive manner; and support localities of the two countries to promote the establishment of cooperative relations in potential fields, in accordance with the strengths and needs of localities of the two countries.

The Vice President of the National Assembly affirmed that Vietnam is ready to act as a bridge to promote relations between the Greek Parliament and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly. Regarding economic cooperation, the current trade turnover between Vietnam and Greece is still quite modest, while both sides have strengths in agricultural production; Vietnam has more than 3,000 km of coastline, logistics costs make product prices high while Greece has strengths in maritime transport. Therefore, the Vice President of the National Assembly believes that this is an opportunity for Greek businesses to invest in Vietnam.

The First Vice President of the Greek National Assembly welcomed the Vietnamese National Assembly for establishing the Vietnam-Greece Friendship Parliamentary Group and believed that this would be a bridge contributing to further deepening the cooperative relationship between the two countries and the two National Assemblies in the coming time; agreed to promote the bridging role of the Friendship Parliamentary Groups of the two countries to enhance cooperation activities and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries; thanked Vice President of the National Assembly Nguyen Duc Hai for his invitation and affirmed his wish to visit Vietnam soon in the coming time.

The two sides agreed to promote the two countries' governments to effectively implement signed cooperation documents, especially in the fields of cultural heritage conservation, tourism management, etc.; implement commitments reached during high-level visits and contacts such as visa exemption for Vietnamese high-tech human resources and the possibility of opening direct flights between Vietnam and Greece; promote the signing of new cooperation agreements in the fields of tax, labor, maritime transport, etc., to create a legal basis to deepen bilateral relations.
