Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong said that Can Tho University is a key national higher education institution in the Mekong Delta, a land rich in potential but facing many challenges of climate change, global food security and the need for sustainable development. With nearly 60 years of construction and development, the school has always clearly demonstrated its role, mission and main tasks of training, scientific research, and technology transfer to serve the socio -economic development in the region and the country.
Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong expressed that, during the visit of the First Vice President of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation AV Yatskin, Can Tho University wishes to strengthen cooperation with Russian institutes and universities in fields such as tourism and cultural exchange, science, technology, digital transformation, training of high-quality human resources, etc.
Emphasizing the field of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, the Chairman of the University Council stated that this is an area in which the Russian Federation has strengths and Can Tho University is prioritizing investment. Therefore, the University proposed to expand research cooperation and technology transfer in fields such as information technology, cyber security, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, new materials, aquaculture technology, renewable energy and carbon emission reduction models.
The school is also ready to work with Russian partners to build joint laboratories, implement joint research projects, and apply scientific results to practical applications in the Mekong Delta.
Can Tho University wishes to expand joint doctoral student supervision programs, exchange lecturers, organize annual bilateral scientific conferences, and establish scholarship funds to support students from both sides. These activities will help strengthen academic connections and create conditions for the young generation of Vietnam and Russia to cooperate, explore and innovate in the field of science and technology, contributing to the development of high-quality human resources for the country and the Mekong Delta, said Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Phuong.
First Vice President AV Yatskin expressed his joy when leading the delegation of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation to visit Can Tho University - one of the top 5 universities in Asia, and having good traditional training cooperation relations with a number of Russian universities in many fields, including agriculture.
Regarding the proposals of the University's leaders, First Vice President AV Yatskin acknowledged and highly agreed that he would be a bridge to introduce a number of Russian universities to strengthen cooperation with Can Tho University, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and agriculture, aiming to jointly research and produce products that are good for human health - a field that is receiving attention and investment from the Russian Government.
The First Vice Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation hopes that through the National Assembly and relevant organizations, Vietnam will continue to research and implement Russian language teaching in high schools, creating favorable conditions for young people to study in Russia or conduct research projects with Russian schools and institutes.
Deputy Chairman of the National Defense, Security and Foreign Affairs Committee Nguyen Manh Tien said he supports and will assist Can Tho University in cooperating with a number of Russian universities in training; stating that Russian universities, although not expanding their promotion and enrollment activities, all have high quality training - this creates prestige and always has an abundant number of students from Europe and Asia studying.
Vice Chairman of the Committee Nguyen Manh Tien hopes that with the beautiful scenery, cool climate and year-round sunshine of Can Tho, many Russian localities and businesses will come to explore investment cooperation opportunities and tourism development so that Russian tourists can learn about the unique culture of the Mekong Delta.
During the meeting, First Vice President AV Yatskin emphasized that the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and he personally will support, promote and create conditions for Can Tho University to become an important partner of Russian institutes and universities; stating that these Russian units are ready to sign a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with the People's Committee of Can Tho City and Can Tho University.
Can Tho University is a multi-disciplinary, multi-field university with 16 schools, faculties, specialized institutes and many research centers, with the goal of training high-quality human resources for the region and the country.
Can Tho University currently has more than 1,900 staff and lecturers along with about 46,000 students and postgraduates in 121 undergraduate training majors, 59 graduate training majors and 24 doctoral training majors.
