(gialai.gov.vn) - On the afternoon of October 30, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich worked with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi on the coordination of organizing an international conference in Gia Lai province in 2026. Also attending the meeting were representatives of the leaders of the departments: Culture, Sports and Tourism, Science and Technology, Education and Training.

At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Dang Hong Son - Vice Rector of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities said that in order to implement the strategy of internationalizing education and promoting scientific research cooperation, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in collaboration with the French École française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) and the Harvard-Yenching Institute (HYI) plans to organize an international scientific conference with the theme "Connecting the highlands: The role of the Central region in the process of forming a global Vietnam" in mid-June 2026 in Gia Lai province.

The conference is expected to have the participation of many leading international scholars from the United States, Canada, France, Australia, Japan, etc., along with leading experts and researchers in the fields of History and Culture of Vietnam.

This will be a prestigious academic forum, aiming to comprehensively re-evaluate the role of the Central region, especially the dynamic interaction between the highlands and the coast in the history as well as in the process of global integration of Vietnam. In addition, the conference will also focus on discussing the history, culture and development potential of Gia Lai province in the coming time.

Vice Principal Dang Hong Son expressed his wish to receive support from the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee and close coordination from departments, branches and sectors to successfully organize this important international conference in the locality.

Vice President Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich thanked the University of Social Sciences and Humanities for its interest in choosing Gia Lai province as the location to coordinate the organization of the international scientific conference with the theme "Connecting the highlands: The role of the Central region in the process of forming a global Vietnam".

Vice President Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich said that Gia Lai is a locality possessing many unique historical and cultural values such as: An Khe Old Stone Archaeological Site - the cradle of ancient people in Southeast Asia, which has outstanding value in affirming the role of Gia Lai in the development process of mankind; Tay Son Dynasty relic complex; Ancient Champa culture and the connections, cultural and trade exchanges between the highlands and the Central coastal region in the historical process; along with the system of unique tangible and intangible cultural heritages of the Central Highlands ethnic groups, clearly showing the identity, beliefs, folk arts and rich spiritual life of the ethnic communities in the province... These valuable cultural "assets" not only have profound scientific and humanistic significance, but also have practical value in the work of preserving and promoting cultural and historical values associated with sustainable development of Gia Lai province in the new period.

Vice President Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich believes that the workshop will provide important scientific arguments for planning local sustainable development policies in the coming time, as well as contribute to promoting the image, historical and cultural values and potential of Gia Lai province to the domestic and international academic community.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with the Department of Science and Technology, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Finance and relevant agencies and units to closely coordinate with the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in the preparation process for the successful and effective conference; at the same time, he hopes to continue receiving the attention and cooperation of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities in research, training and promotion of heritage values, culture and people of Gia Lai in the coming time.
