Since the beginning of the year, authorities across the country have detected and handled more than 34,000 violations related to smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods. Specifically, more than 8,200 cases of trading and transporting prohibited and smuggled goods; over 25,100 cases of trade and tax fraud and more than 1,100 cases related to counterfeit goods and intellectual property infringement. The total amount of money collected for the state budget reached more than VND 4,897 billion, with nearly 1,400 criminal cases prosecuted with more than 2,100 subjects.

Faced with this alarming situation, the Government has established a special task force on the prevention and combat of smuggling, trade fraud and counterfeit goods, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son. The peak period of the crackdown took place from May 15 to June 15 nationwide, with the coordination of ministries, sectors, localities and the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee 389 as the standing agency.

At the first meeting of the working group on May 19, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son assessed that the situation of smuggling, trade fraud, and counterfeit goods remains complicated, widespread, and diverse. These violations not only cause budget losses but also seriously affect public health, cause public panic, erode social trust, and hinder the country's socio -economic development.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son requested ministries, branches and localities to promptly inspect and handle any complaints from people about counterfeit and poor quality goods.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the work of preventing and combating smuggling, counterfeit goods and trade fraud is an important and long-term task. The Deputy Prime Minister requested ministries, branches and localities to promptly inspect and handle any complaints from the people about the trade, production and consumption of counterfeit and poor quality goods. At the same time, inspection and supervision must also be carried out regularly, not just for the sake of coping or following trends.

To effectively implement the peak period, the Deputy Prime Minister directed the ministries and branches that are members of the Working Group to complete and issue a detailed action plan before May 20. At the same time, the agencies must review the system of legal documents, promptly amend or recommend competent authorities to supplement regulations to "plug loopholes" that are being exploited in the production and trading of counterfeit and poor quality goods.

The Deputy Prime Minister also requested that the members of the Working Group directly grasp the situation, conduct field inspections, and urge the implementation of tasks in their ministries, branches, and localities. Localities were emphasized to coordinate closely and not to loosen market management for the reason of merging administrative units.
