Similar to the North and Central Highlands, the live hog market in the South also remained stable this morning. In the provinces and cities in the region, live hogs are being traded at 73,000 - 75,000 VND/kg.
The latest survey shows that Ben Tre , Long An and Tien Giang are the localities with the highest live pig prices in the country, reaching 75,000 VND/kg.
According to analysts, domestic pig prices are currently stable after a period of slight adjustment. Although some areas have recorded local price increases, the general trend in the short term remains sideways.
Supply from livestock farms remains assured, while retail market demand has not changed significantly. Processing enterprises and supply chains continue to closely monitor market developments to adjust their purchasing strategies accordingly.
Since late April, several communes in Huu Lung, Loc Binh, and Van Lang districts in Lang Son province have recorded outbreaks of African swine fever. This is a worrying situation, as in previous years, this disease often tends to break out strongly and spread widely at the end of May, according to Lang Son Newspaper.
According to a representative of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine, Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son province, every May, there is often hot weather mixed with heavy rain, creating favorable conditions for the African swine fever virus to develop and spread in pig herds.
At the same time, this is also the time when farmers restore and increase their herds, however, the process of purchasing piglets is not strictly controlled, potentially causing the risk of spreading disease if pigs carrying pathogens are purchased.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son province has directed departments to prepare sufficient chemical sources to provide to districts and cities, supporting livestock farmers in disinfecting barns.
At the same time, the Department also sent staff to coordinate with specialized departments and agricultural service centers in districts and cities to inspect and guide livestock farming households to comply with biosafety procedures, minimizing the risk of disease transmission to pigs.
In addition, authorities continue to promote and encourage farmers to proactively vaccinate their pigs against African swine fever, as well as vaccinate breeding pigs as soon as they are imported.
