Regarding the case of students studying National Defense and Security Education at Hanoi University of Science and Technology having to eat leftover rice, soup, and food containing foreign objects, on October 9, the Government Office sent a document to the Minister of Education and Training , conveying the Deputy Prime Minister's opinion on urgently directing the inspection and strict handling of violations related to the information reported by the press.

In particular, the Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Ministry to strengthen direction, management and inspection of the implementation of food hygiene and safety for students in educational institutions, ensuring quality and safety, and preventing similar cases from recurring.

Previously, some new students of Hanoi University of Science and Technology reported that the quality of meals during the 2 weeks of National Defense and Security Education at the school was not guaranteed.

Specifically, leftover rice in each table's bowl from the previous meal is collected, mixed, and poured into a tray.

The canteen staff then poured the leftover rice into the communal rice bin and continued to distribute it to the units that came later.

Not only was the leftover rice from the previous meal reused for the next meal, the half-eaten soup bowls from each table were also collected and poured into the pot. Afterwards, the kitchen asked the students of the serving squad to put all the leftover soup into a common pot to be shared with the next students.

In particular, some students reported seeing many foreign objects in their meals, causing many to be scared and have to buy bread to eat.

The leaders of Hanoi University of Science and Technology admitted that some of the reflections were correct, and at the same time, the school accepted responsibility and apologized to parents and students for the unfortunate incident.

Explaining to Hanoi University of Science and Technology, the catering supplier said that they had not received direct feedback from students about food hygiene, no cases of food poisoning had been recorded, and new staff did not understand the regulations.

This unit also admitted that there were cockroaches that got into the meat slicer, so the information about cockroach legs in the food is correct.

Finding the incident unacceptable, Hanoi University of Science and Technology terminated the contract with the catering provider.

Canteen A15, where the incident occurred, was temporarily closed on the morning of October 8. About 500 students studying National Defense and Security Education were transferred to the school's staff and lecturers' canteen while waiting for the school to evaluate the new meal provider.

Major General Tran Ngoc Thanh, Director of the Department of National Defense and Security Education (Ministry of Education and Training), together with Hanoi University of Science and Technology and local health agencies, directly inspected the kitchens of Hanoi University of Science and Technology.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporter yesterday afternoon (October 8), Major General Tran Ngoc Thanh said that the scandal at Hanoi University of Science and Technology, according to Mr. Thanh, was under the authority of the school.

Therefore, in the coming time, the Department of National Defense and Security Education will advise leaders to rectify schools to comply with regulations.

There are currently 46 National Defense and Security Education centers nationwide. This is the only subject taught by law, requiring full-time attendance at each level and grade.

Many universities have to let students study National Defense and Security Education elsewhere. As for Hanoi University of Science, new students can study National Defense and Security Education at school.
