Women ask matchmakers to find attractive men who are humorous and know how to do housework

Báo Dân tríBáo Dân trí14/01/2025

(Dan Tri) - Matchmaking companies in China reveal that women in this country tend to look for men who are humorous and know how to do housework.

According to statistics, in the first three quarters of 2024, the marriage rate in China decreased by 16% compared to the same period last year, with only 4.7 million couples getting married. However, according to a matchmaking platform, the dating market is still vibrant as the younger generation is more open to dating culture.

The "monkey man" archetype - humorous and good at housework - has become an attractive choice for Chinese women.

The term first appeared on social media to describe famous men with well-proportioned bodies and "monkey-like" eyes, such as actor Wu Lei and actor-singer Wang Hedi.

"'Monkey men' may not look serious because of their sense of humor, but they are reliable when you really need them," one netizen commented.

The reason why funny men are often associated with monkeys is the legend of Sun Wukong - a quick-witted and humorous character in the work Journey to the West.

Another netizen said she likes “monkey-like men” because they have “energetic and bright personalities.” But being outgoing is not enough, they are more appreciated for their gentle and thoughtful personalities.

"Instead of being unserious, they are actually optimistic and don't mind life's troubles. Being with them also makes me happy," one person said.

A 24-year-old woman in Shanghai told mainland media that her boyfriend - a typical "monkey man" - often made her laugh. When they moved into a new apartment, he took care of everything.

Another commented that “monkey men” look healthy because they exercise regularly. Such men’s lifestyle is a sign of a well-off family.

"They must have grown up in a well-off family so they don't have to worry about education or work, or how to fight to stay in the big city," one account shared.

The trend of "monkey men" also reflects the growing demand of Chinese people for quality of life. Emotional values in relationships are increasingly emphasized, instead of money and social status.

A woman in Beijing said she chose such a man out of several blind dates because he was the only one who tried to make her laugh.

“Other men want to show off their wealth and status so I can admire them,” she said.
