Women and youth participate in environmental protection

The city's youth union members and women's union members are always pioneers and actively implement many good models and meaningful tasks to join hands with all levels and sectors to protect the environment and ecosystem, creating a strong spread. Thanks to that, they contribute to changing the community's awareness in waste classification, environmental protection, and adaptation to climate change.

In mid-April 2025, nearly 100 disabled women from the Thanh Khe District Disabled Women's Club went to Nguyen Tat Thanh beach to pick up trash and clean up the environment. Despite the difficulty in moving, the women still diligently collected all the trash on the beach, especially plastic waste. Ms. Phan Thi Hai Giang, Vice President of the Club, said that this activity is part of a project to improve the capacity to respond to climate change for disabled women, aiming to restore the green color to the beach and spread an environmentally friendly lifestyle.

Plastic waste can be recycled when collected by members to make products serving life such as handbags, pen holders, flower pots, or household items. Through the activity, the Club hopes to call on everyone to reduce plastic waste, not litter the environment, especially the beach, so that Da Nang beach is always beautiful in the eyes of tourists from near and far.

Da Nang women are always pioneers in environmental protection activities with many practical activities, typically: the movement "Anti-plastic waste", the project "Planting flowers and trees to contribute to environmental sustainability", the model "Green every roof, clean every street", "5 yes 3 clean", "5 no 3 clean" ... Along with that, from 2024 to now, grassroots associations where the railway passes through have simultaneously deployed the model "Train Road - Flower Road", contributing to creating landscapes, improving the living environment, and reducing environmental pollution.

In particular, the City Women's Union also mobilized the participation of women scrap collectors in the management, classification and treatment of solid waste and plastic waste in the city. Vice President of the City Women's Union Nguyen Thi Huyen said that the activities organized by the association created conditions for women working in the scrap collection profession to exchange, learn, share experiences and support each other in their work, while having a stable source of income. At the same time, they can contribute to environmental protection, classification and treatment of solid waste and plastic waste in the locality.

Besides women, young people are also the leading force in movements and activities related to environmental protection and climate change response. Recently, more than 100 students from the Youth Union of Da Nang College of Tourism in collaboration with the Sen Viet Club launched a Green Sunday, cleaning up roads and public parks in Ngu Hanh Son district. Similarly, at the end of March, Lien Chieu and Son Tra youth simultaneously launched a "Green Sunday" with activities such as: cleaning the marine environment, removing classified ads, cleaning roads and drainage systems, etc.

The City Youth Union and its branches regularly launch competitions and campaigns to promote environmental protection and build an environmental city. This April, the City Youth Union launched consecutive competitions on environmental protection, including the “Green City of the Future” competition and the “Protecting the Environment is Protecting Life” poster design competition. Through this, awareness is raised, and the participation and cooperation of the young generation in creating a green and safe living environment are mobilized.

In order to connect the young generation towards a green, healthy, sustainable lifestyle, and pioneer in solving climate change issues, on this occasion, the City Youth Union launched a green media ambassador activity with the theme "Living green with Gen Z" in 2025, with the participation of more than 100 students from high schools in the city. According to Deputy Secretary of the City Youth Union Nguyen Thi Anh Thao, this is a new, creative and meaningful activity model organized by the City Youth Union in coordination with the United Nations Children's Fund in Vietnam (UNICEF Vietnam).

The event will last from April 6 to June 8 with many practical activities. Project groups will visit models of environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and disaster risk reduction currently being implemented in the city or neighboring localities. "This will be an interesting journey for young people to discover their own abilities and demonstrate the role of the young generation in connecting, working together towards a green, healthy lifestyle, and pioneering in solving the problem of climate change," Ms. Thao shared.
