Phu Quoc is being praised by South Korean media as the 'Maldives of Vietnam'.

South Korean news agency Yonhap has hailed Phu Quoc as the "Maldives of Vietnam," a resort paradise attracting an increasing number of Korean tourists.

In an article published in mid-September, Yonhap noted that in terms of global popularity, Da Nang and Ha Long Bay are more well-known to international tourists than Phu Quoc. However, the "pearl island" is equally beautiful, boasting pristine emerald-green beaches and 4-5 star resorts with stunning ocean views.

Korean news outlets suggest that it would be a wise choice for Korean tourists to visit Phu Quoc now, before the destination becomes too popular and overcrowded.

According to a Yonhap survey, the number of Korean tourists visiting Phu Quoc is gradually increasing thanks to word-of-mouth and "Korean signs can often be seen in restaurants and massage parlors in the center of Duong Dong town."

Suggesting an itinerary in Phu Quoc, travel expert Baek Seung-ryeol recommends three experiences: staying at resorts in the south of the island, strolling through the "Mediterranean town" Sunset Town, and visiting a temple with a statue of the Goddess of Mercy overlooking the sea.

The southern part of the island is home to many 5-star resorts where guests can enjoy ocean views from their pools or bedrooms. These resorts are considered by Korean media to be "a paradise for relaxation and family travel" due to their numerous amenities such as spas, fitness centers, event spaces, kids' clubs, and many outdoor group activities like yoga, scuba diving, and cycling. Resorts recommended by Korean experts include Premier Residences Phu Quoc Emerald Bay, Premier Village Phu Quoc Resort, La Verand, and JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort & Spa.

Besides experiencing the stunning resorts, Yonhap suggests that visitors explore "Sunset Town," located 10 minutes west of JW Marriott Phu Quoc. "Here, world-famous landmarks such as the ruins of Pompeii and the Roman Colosseum are recreated," Baek Seung-ryeol was quoted as saying by Yonhap.

He also suggested that tourists experience the world's longest three-wire cable car, with its station located in the middle of the town, to reach Hon Thom Island. At the cable car station, visitors can admire the giant clock tower, resembling the famous San Marco bell tower in Venice, Italy. "It's a truly unique experience, seeing the Mediterranean landscape in a tropical country," Yonhap commented.

Besides relaxing experiences, Phu Quoc is also a suitable destination for exploring culture and visiting historical sites. Ho Quoc Pagoda, the largest pagoda on the island, is a favorite among tourists because it sits on a hill with a direct view of the sea and is a beautiful spot to watch the sunrise, making it a great place to visit early in the day.

This is not the first time South Korean media has shown interest in Phu Quoc. Last June, many newspapers and news websites in South Korea reported on and introduced the Vietnamese island city as an attractive new destination.
