Nearly 90 tons of lychee "ride" Vietnam Airlines plane for export

According to information from Vietnam Airlines, this airline recorded transporting nearly 90 tons of fresh lychee for export to European countries (UK, France, Germany) and Asia (Japan, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia) in May, June and early July 2023. For the domestic market, Vietnam Airlines transported nearly 1,300 tons.

In addition to road, sea and rail, international fabric export demand by air in 2023 is expected to increase by 50% compared to 2022.

With many years of experience in transporting fruit and lychee domestically and internationally, Vietnam Airlines plans to serve this source of agricultural products very soon.

"The airline has proactively coordinated with businesses and local farmers to survey the market before the lychee season in major lychee growing areas in the North such as Bac Giang , Hai Duong, and Quang Ninh at the end of April 2023. The survey aims to assess the lychee harvest situation of farmers, determine the demand for transporting lychee by air domestically and internationally to develop appropriate policies and service plans," said Vietnam Airlines.

Through the policy of maximum support for Vietnamese agricultural products exported abroad, Vietnam Airlines has cooperated with fruit and vegetable exporting companies and freight forwarding companies to build preferential price policies and always prioritize loading goods for this source of goods.

At the same time, the service and supervision of goods at the airport are given special attention by the units, making the most of the advantages of Vietnam Airlines' comprehensive and synchronized aviation logistics chain. Goods are stored in cold storage at the required temperature, prioritized for quick import, and prioritized for loading on flights so that the fruit and lychee arrive on schedule, ensuring that when they reach consumers, they still retain their fresh quality.

“In the coming time, Vietnam Airlines will continue to accompany provinces, localities and businesses, bringing Vietnamese agricultural products and brands to the international market,” said a representative of Vietnam Airlines.

Vietnamese rice "has a good price"

Indian rice export prices rose to a five-year high on supply concerns, while strong demand kept rates in Thailand and Vietnam near two-year highs.

Top exporter India's 5% broken parboiled rice prices were quoted at $412-$420 a tonne this week, up from $409-$416 a tonne last week.

Demand has picked up but prices have risen due to limited supplies and the Indian government increasing the price at which it buys rice from farmers, a Mumbai-based exporter said.

Global rice prices, currently at an 11-year high, are expected to rise further after the Indian government increased the price it buys from farmers, amid the El Nino weather phenomenon that threatens to cut output in key rice-producing countries.

Meanwhile, Vietnam's 5% broken rice prices were offered at $500-510 per tonne, unchanged from a week ago.

A trader in Ho Chi Minh City said demand for Vietnamese rice remains strong, and estimated global rice demand could continue to increase until the end of this year.

The country's rice exports this year will exceed 6.5 million tons, but still below last year's 7.1 million tons, a senior official of the Vietnam Food Association said.

Preliminary data showed that 95,200 tonnes of rice were unloaded at Ho Chi Minh City port between July 1 and 12, with most of the rice destined for Africa, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Thailand’s benchmark 5% broken rice prices were unchanged from last week at $515 a tonne. Overall, rice prices remained high due to strong demand from Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and some African countries as drought concerns increased demand for stocks, according to a Bangkok-based trader.

Bangladesh’s summer-sown rice output will exceed its target of 21.5 million tonnes this year, agriculture ministry officials said, as the country struggles to contain rising domestic rice prices despite ample production and stocks.

Fruit and vegetable exports may set new record

Fruit and vegetable exports are a bright spot in the agricultural sector. In the first 6 months of the year alone, the industry brought in nearly 2.8 billion USD, equal to 81.8% of the whole year of 2022. If nothing changes, a new record for this year will soon be set.

According to the Department of Crop Production, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam is the 14th largest country in the world in fruit production with a total area of over 1.2 million hectares.

The area of new plantings has increased continuously every year, averaging more than 62,000 hectares/year in the Southern region, focusing on crops with high economic value such as dragon fruit, durian, jackfruit, mango, grapefruit... helping our country rank 9th in fruit and vegetable exports in the world market.

Vietnam’s fruit and vegetable export value began to exceed the 1 billion USD mark in 2013 and has continuously exceeded 3 billion USD per year in recent years. With the turnover of the first 6 months of this year, our country is fully capable of reaching the target of 4 billion USD for the whole year and even setting a new record for this industry.

"We still have a large durian area in the Central Highlands, which promises to bring in a large number. Thus, the possibility of reaching 5 billion USD this year is within reach. The booming turnover is thanks to the Chinese market, with the largest contribution being durian. This year's durian turnover will exceed 1 billion USD, with the possibility of reaching 1.5 billion USD," said Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association.
