The 5th Friendship Bicycle Journey for Green Hanoi: Connecting and spreading love for the Capital

The 5th Friendship Bicycle Journey for a Green Hanoi attracted more than 300 delegates, including Ambassadors, Charge d'Affaires, officials from embassies, representatives of international organizations, foreign non-governmental organizations, along with representatives from the Central Government, Hanoi, and friendship associations and member clubs.

On the morning of November 29, the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations (HAUFO) coordinated with the Department of Culture and Sports and Hoan Kiem Ward to organize the 5th Friendship Bicycle Journey for a Green Hanoi.

This is an annual program organized with the desire to enhance friendly exchange activities, raise people's awareness of preserving the green living environment, promote the image of the capital Hanoi "Cultured - Civilized - Modern - Happy", and encourage the use of environmentally friendly means of transport.

Attending the program, on Hanoi's side, there were Mr. Vu Dang Dinh, member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Hoan Kiem Ward; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ky, Chairman of HAUFO, representatives of departments, branches and students of the capital.

On the international side, there were: Ambassador of Palestine to Vietnam Saadi Salama, Head of the Diplomatic Corps in Vietnam; Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam Jim Nickel and his wife; Ambassador of Nicaragua to Vietnam Mario Jose Armengol Campos; Deputy Ambassador of Laos to Vietnam Latana Siharaj and representatives of the Embassies of Russia, Indonesia, Venezuela and international organizations in Vietnam.

In addition, the program also had the participation of special guest Mr. James Joseph Kendall - a close friend of Vietnam.

In his opening speech, HAUFO Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Ky said that the 5th Friendship Bicycle Journey for a Green Hanoi attracted more than 300 delegates, including Ambassadors, Charge d'Affaires, officials from embassies, representatives of international organizations, foreign non-governmental organizations, and representatives from the Central Government, Hanoi, and friendship associations and member clubs.

With the goal of Vietnam reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 43.5% by 2030 and achieving net zero emissions by 2050, the government and people of the capital are making efforts to build green cities, protect the environment, care for the young generation and solve urbanization problems...

The program not only enhances exchanges and strengthens friendly relations between Hanoi and international friends but also contributes to promoting the image of a green, clean, beautiful and environmentally friendly capital.

According to the Chairman of HAUFO, the environment is an urgent and important issue for the world. Therefore, using environmentally friendly means of transport such as bicycles is an effective way to reduce air pollution and protect the environment.

Speaking at the program, Palestinian Ambassador, Head of the Diplomatic Corps in Vietnam Saadi Salama emphasized that this is not only a sporting activity, but also a meaningful moment to meet, connect and spread love for the capital Hanoi.

"There is something special when we cycle through the peaceful streets of Hanoi on a chilly morning in late autumn. The gentle breeze, the friendly smiles, the companionship between international friends and Hanoians create a warm, sincere feeling, very Hanoian. Vietnam, especially the capital Hanoi, always makes me admire the tradition of 'remembering the source of drinking water' and the respect for cultural and historical values ​​preserved through many generations. During these meaningful days, I feel more clearly the spirit of 'Hanoi for the whole country, the whole country for Hanoi' - a humane and enduring spirit", the Palestinian Ambassador shared.

At the program, the Organizing Committee presented 10 bicycles to 10 students with difficult circumstances who have made great efforts in their studies in Hoan Kiem ward. This is a meaningful gift, timely encouragement and motivation for the students to continue to firmly step on the journey of overcoming difficulties, studying well, and becoming useful citizens for society.
