On the evening of December 10, in the capital New Delhi, the Embassy and the Office of the Vietnamese Defense Attaché in India solemnly held a ceremony to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024) and the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2024).

According to a VNA reporter in New Delhi, the ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to India Nguyen Thanh Hai, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Indian Navy - Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, Director of the Institute of Defense Strategy, Major General Vu Cuong Quyet, Defense Attaché, Colonel Trinh Ngoc Dai, along with defense attachés from dozens of countries in India, former Indian defense attachés in Vietnam, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense of the host country and all staff of the Embassy, ​​agencies, representative offices of Vietnam in India, and the Vietnamese community living and working in this South Asian country.

In his opening speech, Ambassador Nguyen Thanh Hai proudly affirmed that, over the past 80 years, the Vietnam People's Army has always been a loyal and trustworthy military force of the Party, State and people.

With the spirit of fighting for independence, freedom and happiness of the people, the Vietnamese army has overcome many difficulties, challenges and sacrifices to achieve great achievements.

The Ambassador reiterated India's support for Vietnam in its struggle for independence as well as in its pursuit of peace and development, emphasizing that the deep and long-standing friendship between Vietnam and India has continuously grown strongly, especially in the fields of defense and security.

The two sides have effectively implemented the Joint Vision Statement on India-Vietnam Defence Partnership towards 2030, continuing to explore new avenues of cooperation in areas such as peacekeeping, disaster relief and maritime security.

The Ambassador pointed out that the state visit to India by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh last July added momentum to the relationship between the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to further strengthen defense cooperation, among other things, based on the common interests and priorities of the two countries.

The Ambassador expressed his belief that by working together, Vietnam and India can build a common future of prosperity, peace and stability in the region and the world.

Also at the ceremony, Defense Attaché, Colonel Trinh Ngoc Dai recalled the formation and development process of the Vietnam People's Army.

He said that, inheriting and promoting the patriotism and military art of the Vietnamese people and the support of international friends, after 80 years of building, fighting and growing, the Vietnam People's Army has continuously grown and developed, always demonstrating the nature of a revolutionary army, born from the people, fighting for the people, an absolutely loyal and trustworthy fighting force of the Party, State and People of Vietnam.

Colonel Trinh Ngoc Dai reviewed some of the glorious achievements of the Vietnam People's Army in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland: Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954, General Offensive and Uprising in Spring 1975, completely liberating the South, unifying the country...

According to Colonel Trinh Ngoc Dai, entering the new era, the Vietnam People's Army continues to promote its heroic tradition, constantly improve its quality, strength, level, combat readiness, and perform well its three functions: combat army, working army, and production labor army; further embellishing the beautiful image of "Uncle Ho's Army."

Besides, Colonel Trinh Ngoc Dai said, the Vietnam People's Army always proactively promotes international integration and defense diplomacy at both bilateral and multilateral levels.

According to Colonel Trinh Ngoc Dai, the Vietnam People's Army has achieved the above achievements thanks to its own efforts but also thanks to the material and spiritual support of friendly countries around the world, including Indian friends.

He expressed his joy and pride that the defense relationship between the two countries has been continuously strengthened and developed in recent times, becoming a bright spot and pillar in the Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He also reviewed the outstanding defense cooperation activities between the two countries in recent times, and said that the defense relationship between the two countries is on the rise and there is still much room to seek and expand cooperation, contributing to deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti sent his sincere congratulations to the people and all Vietnamese forces on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.

He said that this commemorative event not only marks an important milestone in Vietnam's history but also honors the profound and great contributions of the Vietnam People's Army to the independence, security and prosperity of this great nation.

The resilience, courage and dedication of the Vietnam People's Army have inspired armed forces around the world.

According to Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, the friendship between India and Vietnam is time-tested and has grown stronger over the decades.

The teachings of the Buddha, transmitted from India to Vietnam, laid the foundation for a common ethos of harmony and mutual understanding.

The defence relationship between India and Vietnam is the cornerstone of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, characterised by trust, mutual respect and shared strategic interests.

Also within the framework of the celebration, delegates watched a documentary about the heroic feats of the Vietnam People's Army during its 80 years of formation and development.

At the standing banquet after the ceremony, the delegates raised their glasses to celebrate this important event of the Vietnam People's Army in particular and the Vietnamese people in general. Afterwards, the delegates took a photo together to record this important moment of the Vietnam People's Army - the force that has shaped a peaceful and prosperous Vietnam today.
