Can't adults think of anything more than those two words? Many children, when asked, answered that they look forward to summer vacation so they don't have to wake up early for school and no longer have to struggle with homework. Unfortunately, children's thoughts often don't align with adults', or adults lack understanding and support. While children dream of a proper summer vacation, a time to play and rejuvenate, many adults worry that if their children don't study, it will be difficult for them to achieve their goals.
Another type of summer school, which is also a concern for many parents, is to prevent children from falling into the traps of the outside world and other temptations within their own homes through audiovisual devices.
It's unclear what the children will learn, but what is visible is that they won't be tempted or lured into such activities. Many parents casually discuss such extreme solutions without considering their children's feelings.
The education sector differs from many other professions in that it has a summer break for children to participate in cultural, sports, recreational, and group activities. However, this is also the time that causes the most confusion for many families. They are unsure what to do instead of forcing their children to attend extra classes in academic subjects.
So what can we do to make our summer vacation meaningful and productive?
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has just signed Directive No. 17/CT-TTg on organizing two-session-per-day teaching and summer activities for children and students.
Regarding the organization of summer activities, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to create conditions for children to play, participate in cultural and artistic activities, and develop physical skills and life skills during the summer, in accordance with the conditions of each locality, and to prevent accidents, injuries, and drowning. The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Education and Training to provide guidance and regularly inspect and supervise the organization of summer activities for children and students to ensure they are truly safe, beneficial, and effective; promptly correct any cases that do not comply with regulations, and strictly handle violations. Therefore, overcoming difficulties, localities and relevant agencies must pay more attention to and create more suitable cultural and sports playgrounds to attract children's participation. Summer activities that are merely 형식적인 (formalistic) or "start strong but finish weak" must be eliminated. Instead, appropriate and practical activities should be prioritized. Fulfilling this requirement effectively will not only help children improve their soft skills but also solve a problem that many parents struggle with every summer vacation.
