The Go Da relic was first discovered by archaeologists in 2014 when implementing the project "Gia Lai history from the origin to the present" chaired by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province. From this initial discovery, in June 2014, the Institute of Archaeology (under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) launched a research project and discovered 5 Paleolithic relics in An Khe town, Gia Lai province. At the end of 2014, the relics were assessed and included in the International Cooperation Program on Researching Vietnam's Ancient Past between the Institute of Archaeology (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) and the Novosibirsk Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography (Russian Academy of Sciences) for the period 2015-2019. In November 2015, the Go Da relic was excavated for the first time by Vietnamese-Russian archaeologists. In parallel with the excavation of Go Da, archaeologists conducted investigations and exploratory excavations at the Roc Tung 1 relic (Xuan An commune) in November 2015. Archaeologists found 12 sites with traces of primitive culture in Roc Tung (Xuan An commune, An Khe town). The excavation results of the Go Da-Roc Tung relics have yielded hundreds of tektite fragments and thousands of stone relics with various types such as: pointed tools, two-sided hammering tools, rough chopping tools, triangular pointed tools... In particular, 4 hand axes were also obtained during the investigation and survey. |
