Assault units of the Russian Army's Southern Group of Forces (RFAF) have taken control of the village of Predtechino in the southwestern Chasiv Yar region, sources close to the Russian Defense Ministry reported.

The village of Predtechino was occupied by Russian troops three days ago, but then the Ukrainian army (AFU) fiercely counterattacked and took it back. But today, according to the latest information, Predtechino is under the control of the RFAF.

Control of the village of Predtechino is of great tactical importance for both sides, as it is only one kilometer from the city of Konstantinovka and is essentially the key to the “eastern gate” of the largest logistics center in the remaining part of Donetsk Oblast, which is still controlled by Kiev.
15.jpg
Also important is the village of Predtechino, which is the last high point in the Chasov Yar area controlled by the AFU. Konstantinovka itself is located on much lower ground, which makes it very difficult for the Ukrainian defense of Kostiantynivka.

On the southern flank of Kostiantynivka, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that units of the RFAF Central Group of Forces have taken full control of the village of Yablonivka. A video has appeared on the Internet, showing the 33rd Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 20th Guards Motorized Rifle Division raising the Russian flag over the village of Yablonivka. The village of Yablonivka, with a pre-war population of about 4,000, had been under attack by the RFAF for several months, but was only now being taken under control.
6.jpg
Previously, although the Russian army had controlled the Aleksandro-Kalinovo stronghold and one in the H20 area from Mirnograd - Konstantinovka, they were still at risk of being attacked from the village of Yablonivka. Therefore, the complete control of the village of Yablonivka helped the Russian army strengthen the defense line along the H20 road.
5-8518.jpg
The capture of Yablonivka and the consolidation of the defense line along the H20 route forced the three Ukrainian brigades defending south of the Kleban-Byk reservoir into a nearly four-sided encirclement; thus, the Ukrainians there put up a fierce resistance. But more importantly for the RFAF, the expulsion of the Ukrainians from Yablonivka strengthened the northern flank of the defense line and forced the Ukrainians into a tighter encirclement.

The AFU General Staff also admitted that Russian troops had reached the Kleban-Byk reservoir on the western outskirts of the Yablonivka region. On the updated map of the British Ministry of Defense, the red (Russian) color has spread to the shore of the lake and completely cut off the N-20 route, the main supply route to the Ukrainian Toretsk cluster.

On the Pentagon's Liveuamap war map, on the eastern shore of the Kleban-Byk reservoir, Russian troops are closing in. A source from the US Institute for the Study of War (ISW) admitted that "RFAF captured Shcherbinovka", after Russian units "entered the north" of the village, bordering the west of Toretsk.
9.jpg
However, Kiev denied losing Shcherbinovka. Ukraine's Flour channel wrote that Russian troops "are trying to move north from Shcherbinovka, but Ukrainian troops are still present there." But it did not specify the specific situation.
8.jpg
The battle for Shcherbinovka was fierce; the RFAF captured the village several times, but was counterattacked and recaptured by Ukrainian forces. A video captured three Ukrainian soldiers on the northern outskirts of Shcherbinovka, trying to flee towards Kleban-Byk, but were killed by bombs from a quadcopter UAV.
12.jpg
After the Russians took Yablonivka and significantly narrowed the corridor in the Kleban-Byk area, the “oxygen supply” for the Ukrainian troops in Toretsk was cut off; the Ukrainian troops now wavered and fled from Shcherbinovka. Now the remaining Ukrainian troops were in a “cauldron” and were rapidly shrinking.
13.jpg
According to the latest information from the Rybar channel, more than a thousand Ukrainian defenders are running in a ring, the area of which is no more than 2 square kilometers. Everything west of the village of Katerinovka is currently in a gray zone on the enemy's map, but in fact, the Russian army has controlled this ring for the past few days.
14.jpg
There is now a fairly dense evergreen forest along the southern shore of the Kleban-Byk reservoir, but the lake is very deep, making it difficult to move from the north to the south. If the Ukrainians do not withdraw in time, they may not be able to get past the old quarry, while Russian firepower is concentrated in a semicircle southwest of Pleshchiivka, on the Krivoy Torets River.
5.jpg
In practice, this meant that the Ukrainians would no longer have a chance to escape the encirclement in the area north of Toretsk, although in theory there was a “narrow corridor” on the right side of Lake Kleban-Byk, through which the Ukrainians could withdraw; but in practice, it was controlled by Russian fire.
16.jpg
South of the Kleban-Byk reservoir, Russian troops made a fierce attack on the village of Katerynivka and the southern defense line of the Kleban-Byk reservoir. The Military Summary channel reported that the RFAF Group Center broke into the village of Katerynivka from the southeast, that is, from the Shcherbinovka bridgehead, and made significant progress in the village.

The current situation shows that the Toretsk group of the AFU, which was considered the largest group on the Eastern Front a year ago, is living its last days. If the RFAF destroys this group in the coming days, it will free up its forces to focus on the battle for Konstantinovka and Seversk. (sources: Military Review, Sputnik, Ukrinform).
