A meeting chaired by General Oleksandr Syrskyi was held at the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to discuss the prospects of the Ukrainian army (AFU) in the most difficult areas of the Ukrainian battlefield, Resident channel reported, citing sources from the General Staff of the Ukrainian army. Resident channel noted that the AFU commanders were most concerned about the situation in Kupyansk, Pokrovsk and Kostiantynivka. Most of them supported the withdrawal of troops from Pokrovsk and Kupyansk, and proposed to focus on defending Seversk and Kostiantynivka.
However, General Syrskyi insisted on the plan to concentrate on holding Pokrovsk, as this was a request from President Zelensky, but agreed to begin a partial withdrawal of troops from Kupyansk. But it is worth noting that the situation of AFU units in all the above-mentioned cities is very difficult. Currently in Pokrovsk, Russian troops control more than half of the city and they have captured the strategic town of Rodinske, threatening to completely encircle the Ukrainian defenders there. Meanwhile, reports from the battlefield indicate increasing pressure from the Russian Armed Forces (RFAF) on the AFU defenses. The situation in Kupyansk is even worse. Western military experts predict the city will fall by the end of October, while Ukrainian experts have not even tried to refute these reports. As for Kostiantynivka, Russian assault groups are currently fighting on the outskirts of the city, gradually penetrating residential areas and are expected to advance further. It is not surprising that the Ukrainian generals are arguing and cannot come to a consensus on which cities to abandon and which to keep. However, judging by the information in the Resident newspaper, General Syrskyi intends to continue to carry out the orders of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, determined to defend Pokrovsk. On the northern front of Pokrovsk, the RFAF has regained control of Zolotyi Kolodyaz. This means that positions in the remaining territory in Kiev-controlled Donetsk Oblast are in danger of being split in two. Mirnograd and Pokrovsk remain to the southwest of this thrust, while Druzhkovka, Konstantinovka, Kramatorsk and Sloviansk lie to the northeast.
To prevent this RFAF breakthrough from continuing to cross the T-0514 highway axis to advance further north, the AFU deployed almost all of its elite forces to counter the breakthrough, including the 3rd Assault Brigade, formed on the basis of the notorious Azov Battalion. Russian military expert Alexey Anpilogov commented on the Readovka website, saying that over the past month, the AFU has been trying to cut off this deep thrust from Rodinske and Shakhove, but the counterattack has failed. In addition, the RFAF recaptured Vladimirivka, giving the RFAF access to the road to Shakhove, the lifeline for the AFU counterattack. With Pokrovsk likely to fall in the coming days, after taking full control of Pokrovsk, the RFAF Group Center’s next plan will be to continue expanding the “Dobropolye salient” and continue the breakthrough through Zolotoy Kolodez. After that, holding the western Donbass will become extremely difficult for the AFU. It is worth noting that for the first time in a long time, the RFAF Central Group used heavy weapons in the offensive, tanks and armored vehicles. Due to the change of seasons, low cloud cover prevented Ukrainian reconnaissance UAVs from maintaining reliable surveillance of positions, and additional protection of vehicles with anti-UAV nets made the use of armored vehicles even more effective.
AMK Mapping reports that both sides are trying to gain the upper hand in the Dobropolye direction, with villages changing hands several times a day. To the west of the Kucheriv Yar spur, Russian troops continue to stabilize the situation after Ukrainian counterattacks last month. With superior firepower, the Russians once again took the initiative in the Nove Shakhove area, entering the village from the east and taking control of most of the area. Fighting is still going on in the western houses, which are now in the grey zone. The RFAF has also begun infiltrating Vilne from the northeast with fresh infantry reinforcements; fighting is still ongoing in the forested areas just outside the village. The RFAF is also conducting raids on Ivanivka, aiming to regain control of the village and flatten the front southwest of Nove Skakhove. Additional thrusts are being carried out by the RFAF northwest of Zatyshok, where they are attempting to consolidate forest plantations toward the railway, to consolidate their presence on the Zatyshok - Sukhetske line. The AFU continues its efforts toward the roadside trees south of Nykanorivka.
Russian reinforcements have now been brought into Volodymyrivka, trying to advance in the center of the village. Russian troops are also trying to re-fortify the area north of the Novyy reservoir, while Ukrainian forces advance through forest plantations towards Shakhove.
