Quang Nam rewards twins who won gold medals in international maths

On April 29, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province held a ceremony to honor and reward twin brothers Nguyen Tri Hien (older brother) and Nguyen Tri Hau (younger brother) for winning gold medals at the Turkmenistan Math Olympiad. Both are studying in grade 11 specialized in math at Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted (Tam Ky, Quang Nam).

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and 3 Vice Chairmen of the Provincial People's Committee.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Van Dung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province, said he was very happy to hear that the two students won gold medals. This is not only the personal joy of the two students and their families, but also the great joy of the Party Committee and people of the province.

"The fact that the two students won high prizes has contributed significantly to promoting the tradition of studiousness of the people of Quang, the land of the Five Phoenixes," Mr. Dung emphasized.

Mr. Dung believes that this result will be a driving force to promote learning in Quang Nam, promoting more special attention from all levels and sectors in the work of promoting learning and talent.

Mr. Dung also praised and highly appreciated the efforts of Nguyen Binh Khiem High School for the Gifted in particular and theeducation and training sector of Quang Nam province in general.

"Quang Nam has had the honor of inscribing its name on the national gold medal list with prestigious awards, culminating in the gold medals at the 2025 International Mathematical Olympiad won by Nguyen Tri Hien and Nguyen Tri Hau," said Mr. Dung.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Nam province decided to award a certificate of merit and a bonus of 150 million VND to each child.

In addition, leaders of the Department of Education and Training and Quang Nam Provincial Youth Union also gave gifts to the twins.

The 2nd Turkmenistan Mathematical Olympiad was held from April 21 to 26 in the capital Ashgabat (Turkmenistan).

The exam had more than 230 students from 15 countries and territories participating, including some countries with good math traditions such as China, Russia, Bulgaria, Türkiye, Uzbekistan, host country Turkmenistan...

This is a great intellectual playground to promote students’ love of mathematics, learning spirit and enhance international exchange. After a 5-hour competition with 5 questions, each worth 10 points, Hien and Hau excellently achieved 40/50 points, the highest result in the exam.

In addition to Hien and Hau, four other Vietnamese students from Newton Secondary and High School ( Hanoi ), Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted (Da Nang City), Pedagogical High School for the Gifted (Hanoi National University of Education) and Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted (Hai Duong Province) also won gold medals. Vietnam ranked first overall.
