In mid-April, we returned to Binh Duong commune, Thang Binh district (Quang Nam). The countryside in the past had only rows of old barren poplar trees in the middle of vast white sand, with thatched roofs faded by the sun and wind, now there are thousands of houses with tiled roofs and solid walls... To have the peaceful scene today, in the two resistance wars against foreign invaders, thousands of outstanding children of Binh Duong commune fell for the cause of national liberation, including 1,298 martyrs. The whole commune has 358 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; more than 300 wounded and sick soldiers... With their contributions in the resistance war against America to save the country, the Party Committee and people of Binh Duong commune were honored by the Party and State twice with the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces (in 1970, 1972) and Hero of Labor (in 1985).

Quang Nam strives to turn Chu Lai Open Economic Zone into a dynamic economic zone of the region and the country.

Not only Binh Duong, but also the land of “Loyalty, steadfastness, leading the way in defeating the Americans” today, we all see a “transformation”. From Cua Dai bridge across Thu Bon river and along coastal route 129 (now Vo Chi Cong street) connecting Hoi An to Tam Ky are prosperous, prosperous villages; the faces of people are confident and happy. Industrial and tourism projects have turned the wild white sand area into a vibrant one, leading to a strong shift in labor.

From one of the poorest provinces in the country, with a mainly agricultural economy, backward agricultural production (more than 50% of households are poor), industry and tourism are not prominent, budget revenue is only over 150 billion VND in the first year of re-establishment of the province (1997), up to now, Quang Nam has continuously risen and developed impressively. In 2024, the total economic revenue in the province reached over 27,600 billion VND (217 times higher than in 1997), the economic scale reached over 129,000 billion VND, average income per capita was over 84 million VND/year. The economic structure has shifted strongly towards industry and services. People's lives have been constantly improved, the poverty rate has decreased rapidly (by the end of 2024 it will be 4.56%). The whole province has 149/193 communes recognized as meeting new rural standards, 5 district-level units meeting new rural standards. The appearance of urban, rural, mountainous, island and border areas has completely changed compared to the first days of the province's liberation.

From a purely agricultural province, Quang Nam now has Chu Lai Open Economic Zone with the largest automobile production and assembly center and mechanical industry in the country; Chu Lai airport operating effectively and planned to become a 4F international airport, a seaport planned as a type 1, able to receive 50,000-ton ships. The whole province has 14 industrial parks and more than 50 industrial clusters operating with many large investors, attracting more than 6.2 billion USD in foreign investment and hundreds of thousands of billions of VND in domestic investment, creating jobs for more than 113,000 workers. The transport infrastructure is synchronously developed (airport, seaport, railway, road, international border gate connecting inter-regions). Tourism and services are developing rapidly, in which Hoi An has become one of the leading tourist centers in the country and has a prominent destination brand on the world tourism map. The start-up and innovation movement has spread widely. The whole province has more than 480 OCOP products classified as 3 stars or higher, including many products from Ngoc Linh ginseng, affirming the diversity, richness and strong vitality of Quang Nam's rural economy. Along with economic development, Quang Nam focuses on ensuring social security, welfare, progress and equity; harmony between urban and rural areas, between plains and mountains. The cause of education - training, health care, and people's health care has achieved many outstanding achievements.
