Following an agreement reached in the potential coalition led by the MFP, Prachachart Party leader Wan Mohamad Noor Matha was nominated as the sole candidate and thus, Mr. Wan Noor was declared elected as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives. According to the Thai Parliament's regulations, the Speaker of the House of Representatives is also the President of the National Assembly . In his inauguration speech, the new Speaker of the National Assembly, Wan Noor, pledged to be honest, abide by the law and the regulations of the parliament.Mr. Wan Noor, 79, is a veteran lawmaker who has been elected to the Thai House of Representatives nine times. He served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from November 24, 1996 to June 27, 2000 while he was a member of the New Aspiration Party (NAP). The politician has also served as a member of several parties, including the Socialist Action, Democracy, New Aspiration and Thai Rak Thai before becoming the leader of the Prachachart Party.
It is expected that on the afternoon of July 4, the Thai House of Representatives will also elect two Vice President positions from candidates who are MPs from the MFP and Pheu Thai parties.
