Elderly people participate in building advanced and exemplary new rural areas

The province currently has over 279,000 elderly members, accounting for 96% of the population. Implementing the patriotic emulation movement "Old age, bright example" associated with the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas (NTM) and civilized urban areas", in recent years, the elderly in the province have voluntarily contributed their efforts and money to build rural infrastructure, participated in ensuring security and order, maintaining environmental sanitation, actively developing the economy, enriching themselves, their families and society, truly being bright examples for their children and grandchildren to follow.

To promote the role of the elderly, the Association at all levels in the province has stepped up propaganda and mobilized members to actively participate in building advanced and model new rural areas; mobilized children, families and clans to consolidate and exchange land plots according to the plan; voluntarily contributed labor, money, donated land, property and construction materials to expand inter-village and inter-commune roads, installed lighting systems on alleys and lanes, built cultural houses, sports grounds and local welfare works. Implementing the movement "Elderly people participate in environmental protection, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas", members of Association organizations from the province to the grassroots have actively propagated and mobilized children in their families, clans and villages to classify, collect and treat waste according to regulations; limited the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products; organized for members to sign a commitment to implement regulations on environmental protection in residential areas; undertake planting and caring for flowers and trees along the road, creating a bright, green - clean - beautiful environmental landscape.

In addition, the elderly actively participate in the emulation movement to develop the economy, enrich their families; encourage their children to actively start businesses, create jobs, and increase income. Association organizations from the province to the grassroots level focus on propagating and mobilizing members to carry out the movements: "Elderly people do good business", "Emulate good workers with productivity, quality, and efficiency", "Build high-tech agricultural production models", "Emulate research and apply new advances in production and life", "Convert the structure of crops and livestock, build large-scale commodity production areas, build large fields"... With the accumulated knowledge and experience, the elderly in localities have directly participated in labor and production in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, salt industry, industry, small-scale industry, business, and services, attracting hundreds of thousands of workers with stable jobs. To facilitate members in developing their family economy, many association bases have mobilized members to help each other with production experience, advise on economic models suitable for family conditions and local conditions; coordinate with mass organizations, communities, and credit organizations to create capital sources to help poor elderly households with capital and means of production. The emulation movement to do good economic development has developed widely and has been responded to by many elderly people in the province, achieving practical results. Since then, more and more new models, creative ways of doing things, and many typical elderly people who boldly apply scientific and technical advances and new technologies to production and business have emerged, bringing high economic efficiency. In the period of 2018-2023, the whole province has recognized 1,243 typical elderly people who have achieved the title of good economic performance at all levels; of which 1,037 are typical at the grassroots level, 176 are typical at the district level, and 35 are typical at the provincial and central levels. Typical is Mr. Dinh Xuan Moc, Party cell secretary, Director of Dinh Moc Mechanical Company Limited (Xuan Truong) developing the mechanical industry to produce forest product processing machines and clean agricultural products. The company achieves annual revenue of over 100 billion VND, creating jobs for 300 workers with an average income of 6 million VND/person/month; at the same time, actively participating in charity activities worth hundreds of millions of VND each year. Mr. Moc has been awarded a Certificate of Merit by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Science and Technology , the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam Veterans Association, and the Provincial People's Committee; and has been awarded 3 Creative Labor Certificates by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. In building cultural life in residential areas, the elderly are always exemplary and enthusiastic in taking the lead in implementing civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals, festivals, longevity celebrations to ensure savings; participating in giving opinions on building conventions and village regulations. Association organizations in the province also focus on developing and improving the quality of activities of various types of clubs; organizing training courses, guiding the building of Thuc Vu Kinh, Tai Chi Truong Sinh Dao, sports dance clubs, etc., encouraging members to actively participate, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the elderly. In the work of promoting learning and talent, the elderly actively participate in the Executive Committee of the Association for Promoting Learning at all levels, contributing their efforts and intelligence to the cause of cultivating people; actively mobilizing children, families, clans and people to support the Fund for Promoting Learning and Talent in villages, hamlets and clans, promptly encouraging and rewarding excellent students, contributing to improving people's knowledge and nurturing talents for the country. In addition, the elderly also enthusiastically and responsibly participate in local activities, making positive contributions to Party building and government building. The practical and specific actions of the elderly in building advanced and exemplary new rural areas have changed the face of the countryside, contributing to the successful implementation of socio-economic development tasks and goals of localities and the province.

Over the years, the Elderly Association at all levels in the province has always paid attention to taking care of the health, material and spiritual life of its members; building and developing funds, creating resources to care for the elderly, especially those in particularly difficult circumstances. Every year, at the beginning of the new year, the Association at all levels maintains activities to wish longevity and celebrate longevity for its members. The Association at all levels proactively coordinates with the health sector to organize periodic health check-ups and establish health management records for hundreds of thousands of elderly people.

In the coming time, the Elderly Association at all levels in the province will continue to promote and improve the quality of the patriotic emulation movement "Old age, bright example", the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas" associated with "Promoting learning and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" to further promote the role of the elderly in all areas of social life, especially in building advanced and exemplary new rural areas.
