Elderly people participate in building advanced and model new rural areas.

The province currently has over 279,000 elderly members, accounting for 96% of the population. Implementing the patriotic emulation movement "Elderly, Shining Examples" in conjunction with the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas," in recent years, the elderly in the province have voluntarily contributed their labor and resources to building rural infrastructure, participating in ensuring security and order, maintaining environmental hygiene, actively developing the economy, and enriching themselves, their families, and society. They are truly shining examples for their descendants to follow.

To effectively promote the role of the elderly, the Associations at all levels in the province have intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage members to actively participate in building advanced and model new rural areas; mobilizing their children, families, and clans to consolidate land plots according to the plan; voluntarily contributing labor, money, land, assets, and construction materials to expand inter-village and inter-commune roads, install lighting systems on village lanes, build cultural centers, sports fields, and other welfare facilities in the locality. Implementing the movement "Elderly people participate in environmental protection, building new rural areas and civilized urban areas," members of the Associations from the provincial to the grassroots level have actively propagated and mobilized their children, families, clans, and villages to sort, collect, and process waste according to regulations; limit the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic items; and organize members to sign commitments to comply with regulations on environmental protection in residential areas. Responsible for planting and caring for flowers and trees along the roadside, creating a bright, green, clean, and beautiful environment.

Furthermore, the elderly actively participate in emulation movements to develop the economy and enrich their families; encouraging their children and grandchildren to actively start businesses, create jobs, and increase income. Associations from the provincial to the grassroots level focus on disseminating information and mobilizing members to participate in movements such as: "Elderly people excelling in economic activities," "Emulating excellent labor with high productivity, quality, and efficiency," "Building high-tech agricultural production models," "Emulating research and application of new advancements in production and life," "Transforming crop and livestock structures, building large-scale commodity production areas, and developing large-scale fields," etc. Using their accumulated knowledge and experience, the elderly in various localities have directly participated in labor and production in the fields of agriculture, fisheries, salt production, industry, handicrafts, business, and services, attracting hundreds of thousands of workers with stable employment. To facilitate the economic development of their members' families, many local branches have encouraged members to share production experiences, advise on economic models suitable to their family and local conditions; and coordinate with mass organizations, community groups, and credit institutions to create capital sources to help poor elderly households have the necessary capital and means of production. The movement to excel in economic activities has developed widely and has been enthusiastically embraced by many elderly people in the province, achieving practical results. This has led to the emergence of more and more new models, innovative approaches, and exemplary elderly individuals who boldly apply scientific and technological advancements and new technologies to production and business, bringing high economic efficiency. From 2018 to 2023, the entire province recognized 1,243 exemplary elderly individuals who achieved the title of "Excellent in Economic Activities" at various levels; including 1,037 at the grassroots level, 176 at the district level, and 35 at the provincial and central levels. Typical examples include Mr. Dinh Xuan Moc, Party Secretary and Director of Dinh Moc Mechanical Co., Ltd. (Xuan Truong), who has developed the mechanical industry producing various types of machinery for processing forest products and clean agricultural products. The company achieves annual revenue exceeding 100 billion VND, providing employment for 300 workers with an average income of 6 million VND per person per month; and actively participates in charitable activities, donating hundreds of millions of VND annually. Mr. Moc has received commendations from the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Science and Technology , the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Vietnam Veterans Association, and the Provincial People's Committee; and has been awarded three Creative Labor Certificates by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor. Another example is Mr. Cao Van Ba ​​from Giao Phong commune (Giao Thuy district), with his high-tech shrimp farming model adhering to VietGAP standards, earning billions of VND per year…

In building cultural life in residential areas, the elderly always set a good example, enthusiastically taking the lead in implementing civilized lifestyles in weddings, funerals, festivals, and birthday celebrations, ensuring frugality; and participating in the development of regulations and customs. Associations in the province also focus on developing and improving the quality of activities of various types of clubs; organizing training courses and guiding the establishment of clubs for health and wellness practices such as Thuc Vu Kinh, Tai Chi Truong Sinh Dao, and sports dances, encouraging members to actively participate and contribute to improving the spiritual life of the elderly. In the work of promoting education and talent, the elderly actively participate in the Executive Committee of the Education Promotion Association at all levels, contributing their efforts and intellect to the cause of nurturing future generations; actively mobilizing their children, families, clans, and the people to support the village and clan's education and talent promotion fund, promptly encouraging and rewarding outstanding students, contributing to raising the intellectual level of the people and nurturing talent for the country. Furthermore, the elderly actively and responsibly participate in local activities, making positive contributions to Party building and government building. Their practical and concrete actions in building advanced and model new rural areas have transformed the face of the countryside, contributing to the successful implementation of socio-economic development tasks and goals of localities and the province.

Over the years, the Elderly Associations at all levels in the province have consistently focused on caring for the health, material well-being, and spiritual lives of their members; building and developing funds to create resources for caring for the elderly, especially those in particularly difficult circumstances. Every year, at the beginning of the new year, the Associations maintain activities to celebrate and wish longevity to their members. The Associations proactively coordinate with the health sector to organize regular health check-ups and create health management records for hundreds of thousands of elderly people.

In the coming period, the Elderly Associations at all levels in the province will continue to promote and improve the quality of the patriotic emulation movement "Elderly people, shining examples," and the campaign "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas," in conjunction with "Promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's thought, morality, and style," in order to further enhance the role of the elderly in all areas of social life, especially in building advanced and model new rural areas.
