Coach Shin Tae-yong speaks out for the first time.

Recently, coach Shin Tae-yong expressed his frustration and responded on his personal social media account. The South Korean coach claimed he had been subjected to malicious rumors from the Indonesian media. In his first statement since leaving Indonesia, Shin said: “Hello everyone, I have returned to Korea safely and had a happy Lunar New Year holiday thanks to the warm welcome from Indonesian fans. I still remember the hospitality I received at Soekarno Hatta Airport, Jakarta.”

“I returned without needing any explanation because I love Indonesia and Indonesian football. However, some Indonesian media outlets are still reporting untrue things about me. I want to emphasize again that none of the current rumors are true. If this situation continues, it won't end so easily next time,” the South Korean coach stressed, but did not reveal the specific problem he was facing.

Coach Shin Tae-yong will spend five years with Indonesian football before ending his tenure in early 2025.

Coach Shin Tae-yong was unexpectedly dismissed from his contract by the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) in early January. Prior to this, he had just extended his contract to lead the Indonesian national team until 2027. The person chosen to replace Shin Tae-yong is former Dutch football legend Patrick Kluivert.

According to Indonesian media, although coach Shin Tae-yong has left, stories surrounding him remain a hot topic of discussion in the archipelago. Indonesian newspapers note that, in fact, a large number of fans still support coach Shin, after what he has accomplished for Indonesian football.

In a post on his personal page, Coach Shin Tae-yong also expressed: "Finally, I want to ask those who are attacking me with untrue stories: Do you intend to destroy the good things that I and Indonesian football have achieved? And how will that help Indonesian football?"

Regarding coach Shin Tae-yong, Shin Jae-won (his son) also expressed his displeasure after his father became embroiled in malicious rumors, even after being dismissed by PSSI and returning to South Korea. Below Shin's post, Shin Jae-won commented: "I think it's time to reveal the truth. If this continues, we won't remain silent anymore."

Previously, Shin Jae-won had hinted at exposing the "dark side" of PSSI, regarding stories related to coach Shin Tae-yong. Immediately after Shin was dismissed by PSSI, Shin Jae-won shared: "Let's see how far they will go without him. He dedicated himself to bringing Indonesian football to where it is today."

Coach Shin Tae-yong began his involvement with Indonesian football in 2020. He is considered to have brought about a turning point, helping Indonesian football undergo a major transformation in recent times. With a policy of recruiting mixed-race players, Indonesian football's performance has improved significantly, especially with the national team's participation in the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in the Asian region.
