During the most fierce years of the resistance war against America to save the country, the Liberation Art Troupe (under the Central Propaganda Department of the Southern Central Office) was born.
Although only operating for nearly 15 years since its establishment (in 1961), the Liberation Art Troupe has successfully completed its mission, contributing significantly to the glorious victory of the nation, and is a typical testament to the development of the revolutionary art culture of the South and the art of the current period.
With their strong will, enthusiasm, and fearlessness of hardship and sacrifice, the Liberation Art Troupe quickly developed, attracting many talented young people with artistic talent. "Overcoming the smoke of bombs and singing in the fire of bullets", the Liberation Art Troupe team is both artists and soldiers; ready to fight, ready to sacrifice, and to devote themselves.

Many people have fallen, leaving behind their youth on the anti-American journeys, but the songs, poems, and dances of the liberation artists still echo in the hearts of the next generations.
The history of the Group has recorded the strong imprints of musicians and artists such as: Pham Minh Tuan, Vinh Bao, The Hai, Tran Mui, Phan Thao, Lu Nhat Vu, Ho Bong, Thanh Truc, Phan Mieng, Hoai Mai, Hoang Viet, Thanh Nha, Muoi Don, Thanh Hien, Pham Ngoc Truyen, Ngoc Cung, Ngo Y Linh, Thai Ly, To Lan Phuong, Minh Nguyet, Phi Yen...
From the vibrant battlefield, the first works of "literature and art born from blood and fire" were born, such as the songs "Crossing the River", "Saigon Self-Defense Woman's Song", "Lotus Song", "People Living Forever in the Heart of the South", "Wherever There Are Enemies, We Go"...

In particular, the work “The Art of Childhood” with the participation of puppet actors in the Liberation Art Troupe won the Golden Lotus Award at the First Film Festival (1970), the Golden Apsara Award at the International Film Festival in Phnom Penh (1968). In addition, many songs, reformed operas, short plays... received the Nguyen Dinh Chieu Cultural and Artistic Award - a noble award of the southern resistance literature and art.
After the country's reunification, the artistic seeds planted by the Liberation Art Troupe continued to grow strongly, becoming a solid foundation for the formation and growth of major art units in Ho Chi Minh City such as: Bong Sen Traditional Music and Dance Theater, Tran Huu Trang Opera Theater, and City Drama Theater.

The units not only inherit the spirit of revolutionary art but also continue to create, bringing the breath of the new era into each work, contributing to bringing the country's art to a new level.
The content of the book “Liberation Art Troupe R - A historical mark” (compiled by the City Department of Culture and Sports ) includes three parts: Shoulder to shoulder under the same flag (Background and history of the formation of the Liberation Art Troupe R); Portraits of talented people going against the current of the flood (Memoirs of artists of the Liberation Art Troupe R) and This fate keeps this common property (Including 50 revolutionary songs born during this period and Letters from the front line of the Fatherland).

According to People's Artist Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy, Deputy Director of the City Department of Culture and Sports, the book is not only a valuable documentary work but also conveys profound values about patriotism, spirit of sacrifice and passion for art of people who have turned songs and dances into sharp weapons on the ideological front.
Within the framework of the program, the organizing committee held a thematic exhibition "The R Liberation Art Troupe - A historical mark". The exhibition introduced 110 valuable documents and images about the activities of the R Liberation Art Troupe. The content includes three parts: President Ho Chi Minh with culture and art; Shoulder to shoulder under the same flag and Portrait of talents against the flood.
Besides the area displaying documents and images, the exhibition also vividly recreates the living space of artists in the R war zone, through miniatures such as: field tunnels, loyal army houses, military uniform sewing machines and liberation flags, cassava in the morning...
