In the Madrid derby against Rayo Vallecano, Kylian Mbappe did not even manage a single shot on target.

“Rayo force you to run at a crazy pace. This season , we have had a lot of difficulties trying to break the deadlock ,” Xabi Alonso said after the match.

The Basque strategist admitted that Real Madrid lacked innovation in their attacking strategies.

Rayo Vallecano only had 65 hours of rest (playing Conference League ) , while Real Madrid had 113 hours of rest . However, it was the home team that had the clearer opportunities.

According to Opta, Real Madrid's expected goals (xG) is just 0.82, lower than Rayo Vallecano's 1.19.

“The thing is we have to try one game at a time; but this time the team didn't do that ,” Alonso concluded.

After the international break, Real Madrid have three consecutive away trips in La Liga (Elche, Girona, Bilbao), as well as an away match against Olympiacos in the Champions League.
