"In the new school year 2025-2026, Ho Chi Minh City needs to recruit 4,865 more teachers from preschool to high school. Of which, the middle school level needs to recruit the most: 2,283 teachers; followed by primary school: 1,483 teachers; high school: 648 teachers; preschool: 451 teachers" - Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said.
"The situation of local teacher surplus and shortage in Ho Chi Minh City still exists. In the coming time, in parallel with recruiting new teachers according to demand, the department will also have a plan to reduce the situation of local teacher surplus and shortage; encourage young teachers to volunteer to teach in schools in remote areas," Mr. Hieu added.
Meanwhile, according to statistics from the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, in the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have 2,528,789 students from preschool to high school (an increase of 39,632 students compared to the previous school year). Specifically:
Preschool level has 478,458 students (an increase of 4,737 students compared to the previous school year).
Primary school has 939,002 students (9,485 students less than the previous school year).
Secondary school has 759,278 students (an increase of 42,978 students compared to the previous school year).
High school has 352,051 students (an increase of 1,402 students compared to the previous school year).
It is known that after the merger, Ho Chi Minh City became an "educational super city" with 2.6 million students at all levels.
Ho Chi Minh City currently has about 3,500 schools from kindergarten to high school. The number of teachers at all levels is more than 110,000 people.
