The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training has just sent an urgent notice to all educational institutions citywide regarding the coordination and implementation of the campaign against "online kidnapping".
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training requests that school principals continue to implement the Department's official document on preventing and combating cybercrime and fraud targeting students, and the official document on strengthening child protection in the online environment.

The department also requested that schools coordinate with local police agencies to educate students about the risks, methods, and tactics of cybercrime; prevention and problem-solving skills; and guide students in understanding and using communication materials and publications provided by the police.
Schools should disseminate information to their staff and teachers to cooperate in preventing information that is harmful to students, in accordance with the law on cybersecurity.
Schools are coordinating and encouraging students to participate in experiential activities simulating real-life situations and methods for responding to cybercrime at educational institutions as part of a campaign organized by the police force.
Previously, at the workshop "Strengthening the construction of a healthy school environment, eliminating the use of mobile phones during playtime," Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dong, Deputy Head of Department PA03 of the Ho Chi Minh City Police, shared that currently up to 90% of children access social media and use it daily, while only about 35% of students are aware of how to use their time on social media.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Dong, students' use of social media not only affects their studies but also leads to many pitfalls such as fraud, kidnapping, bullying, and online harassment.
Lieutenant Colonel Tran Van Dong advised that students should spend 1-2 minutes reading official information about the forms, warnings, and ways to prevent online scams when going online, in order to minimize risks.
Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training and many universities and colleges nationwide have continuously issued warnings about online scams targeting students. Some common scams include offering scholarships for studying abroad, international exchange programs, and impersonating police officers to demand students transfer money for investigations.
