The Lai Chau Department of Science and Technology is working with the Telecommunications Department on extending mobile phone coverage to villages/hamlets with poor signal reception in Lai Chau province.

On October 30th, at the headquarters of the Telecommunications Department (Ministry of Science and Technology), the Department of Science and Technology held a working session with the Telecommunications Department of the Ministry of Science and Technology to discuss and resolve difficulties and obstacles in extending mobile phone coverage to villages/hamlets with poor signal reception in Lai Chau province.

During the meeting, the leaders of the Lai Chau Provincial Department of Science and Technology proposed that the Telecommunications Department provide advice and support to Lai Chau on the following issues: Assessing the current situation of mobile phone and broadband internet coverage gaps. In particularly disadvantaged areas, remote areas, and border regions after the reorganization of commune-level administrative units; Guidance on implementing policies to support the use of public telecommunications services. In accordance with the scope and subjects stipulated in Decision No. 2269/QD-TTg and Circular No. 14/2022/TT-BTTTT; update and address any issues regarding old/new commune and administrative unit codes in statistical forms, as guided by the Ministry; consider providing resource support from the VTCI Fund. To invest in expanding coverage, ensuring people's access to information and the internet, and serving the digital transformation efforts at the grassroots level; Discuss the coordination mechanism between the parties (Fund - Department - Local authorities) in accompanying the implementation of the national digital infrastructure development goals in accordance with the spirit of Decision No. 912/QD-BKHCN dated May 18, 2025, of the Minister of Science and Technology …

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Chung, Director of the Telecommunications Department, acknowledged Lai Chau province's efforts in proactively reviewing and updating data on areas with weak signal coverage. He also affirmed that the Ministry of Science and Technology will continue to closely coordinate with businesses to prioritize resources to support mobile and broadband internet coverage for disadvantaged areas of the province in the coming time.

The meeting demonstrated Lai Chau province's determination to achieve the goal of leaving no one behind in digital transformation, gradually building a synchronous and modern digital infrastructure to serve socio-economic development and ensure national defense and security in the area.
