Child care and protection
With the attention and direction of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Provincial People's Committee, the coordination of departments, branches, organizations and localities, the work of caring for children in the Month of Action for Children was implemented synchronously, closely following the theme according to the Plan. The total number of children benefiting from the Month of Action for Children was 21,191, with more than 10,555 children in special and difficult circumstances, from poor and near-poor households receiving assistance. The propaganda activities were organized in a rich and diverse manner, attracting the attention and consensus of families, schools and society. Thereby, contributing to raising the awareness of the whole society in joining hands to protect, care for and educate children.
In general, Party committees at all levels, local authorities, departments, branches, unions, socio-economic organizations inside and outside the province have created the best conditions to take care of children, especially children in special and difficult circumstances, living in poor and near-poor families, children in remote areas, Khmer ethnic minority areas... organizing many fun and entertainment activities for children such as celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival, International Children's Day...
Give gifts to children in difficult circumstances.
Specifically, the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of the province coordinated with the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the province and the People's Committee of Vinh Chau town to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival 2023 with the theme "Lanterns light up dreams" for 320 children in special and difficult circumstances, of which 50 scholarships (each worth 1,000,000 VND) and 20 scholarships (each worth 500,000 VND); 250 children received gifts (each gift worth 300,000 VND).
The Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the province coordinated with the Saigon Giai Phong Newspaper to organize a Mid-Autumn Festival program with the theme "Lanterns light up dreams" for 200 children in Tan Hung commune. At the program, 2,500 notebooks, 20 scholarships and 10 bicycles were presented to children in difficult circumstances, 220 lanterns and cakes were given to children from poor households, near-poor households, remote areas and ethnic minority areas.
The Labor Union of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs and the Labor Unions of departments, branches, sectors and organizations of the province organized a Mid-Autumn Festival and gave gifts to 1,022 children of officials, civil servants, public employees and workers of the agency with a total of 1,022 gifts, worth 164,800,000 VND.
The Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of districts, towns and cities coordinates with the City, Town, District Youth Union and departments, branches and organizations to organize Mid-Autumn Festival activities (from August 11 to 14, 2023 lunar calendar) for children in special and difficult circumstances, families in poor and near-poor households, remote areas, ethnic minority areas to participate in Mid-Autumn Festival activities in a joyful, safe and economical spirit, suitable to the capacity and financial conditions of each locality.
Tran Thi Hoang My, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, said that the whole province has given 65,338 gifts to children in special and difficult circumstances, children living in poor and near-poor households, in remote areas, and areas with many ethnic minorities with a total cost of VND 8,832,871,000.
Visit, give gifts, and give scholarships to children
Ms. Hoang My added that the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has coordinated with departments, branches, sectors, provincial organizations and People's Committees of districts, towns and cities to organize the giving of 1,284 gifts to children from poor and near-poor households, each gift worth 200,000 VND with a total cost of 256,800,000 VND. Mobilizing Soc Trang Lottery Company Limited to support 3,336 children in special circumstances, each gift worth 300,000 VND with a total cost of 1,008,000,000 VND.

Coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the People's Committee of Vinh Chau town and the Command of Naval Region 2 to implement the program "Vietnam Navy as a support for fishermen to go offshore and stick to the sea" and the activity "Navy sponsors fishermen's children" for 5 children whose fathers or mothers have accidents or injuries during the production process at sea, leading to loss of working ability, and whose caregivers are from poor households and disadvantaged families in Vinh Phuoc ward and Ward 2, Vinh Chau town, including a number of activities such as: Examination, medicine distribution, visiting, encouraging, and propagating fishermen on fishing boats, giving medicine bags, life jackets, and national flags to 10 fishermen.
In coordination with Soc Trang Provincial Youth Union, the XXVI “Pink Lotus” Festival was organized by 41 palaces, children’s houses, and youth activity centers in the southern region of 28 provinces with the theme “Pink Lotus on the Moon River” with more than 1,320 children participating. The festival awarded “Pink Lotus” houses and scholarships to disadvantaged children in Soc Trang province, and held rom vong dance exchanges, art performances, and exchanges in the districts of Tran De, Chau Thanh, Thanh Tri, and Vinh Chau town.
Soc Trang Province Children's Fund in coordination with Ke Sach District People's Committee organized the awarding of 30 pairs of students and 30 bicycles to disadvantaged students who have overcome difficulties to study well and do not have means of transportation to school, sponsored by Bao Viet Life Corporation.

The Provincial Women's Union implemented the "Godmother" Program, mobilizing benefactors and philanthropists to support 100/139 orphans with an amount of 300,000 - 1,000,000 VND/child/month, giving 500kg of rice and necessities to 13 children. Bringing the godmother and 1 orphan due to Covid-19 to attend the "sunflowers welcome the sun" summer camp in 2023 organized by the Central Union in Hanoi.
The Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of districts, towns and cities coordinated with sectors and organizations to mobilize benefactors and philanthropists to donate 5,935 gifts, 509 scholarships, 20 bicycles and items such as: cabinets, clothes, backpacks, school supplies, household items, coloring sets, notebooks, books, milk, teddy bears and free haircuts to students in difficult circumstances with a total cost of 2,681,300,000 VND.
It can be seen that in recent times, the work of caring for, educating and protecting children, especially children in special circumstances, has always been of interest to the Party, the State and the whole society. This is considered one of the important tasks and responsibilities of the entire political system, family, school and the whole society.
