Soc Trang: Successful surgery for boy with fish bone piercing intestine

During surgery on a 2-year-old boy, doctors at the Soc Trang Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital recorded a foreign object about 4cm in size, suspected to be a fish bone, piercing the cecum.

On June 6, according to information from Soc Trang Province Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital, the unit successfully treated and operated on a 2-year-old boy who swallowed a fish bone and had his intestines punctured by the fish bone.

Currently, the baby's health is progressing positively.

Specialist II Doctor Chung Tan Dinh, Director of the hospital, said that on May 23, baby NHQ (Long Phu district, Soc Trang province) was transferred by his family to Soc Trang Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital in a state of crying a lot, pain throughout the abdomen, fever and vomiting.

Here, the doctors examined, performed an ultrasound and tested and found that Q's appendix was inflamed. The doctors performed emergency surgery.

According to specialist doctor Chung Tan Dinh, during the surgery, doctors recorded a foreign object about 4cm in size, suspected to be a fish bone piercing the cecum.

After successful surgery, Q's health has stabilized.

The patient's family said that Q liked to eat fish and did not know when he swallowed a fish bone. Luckily, the family discovered it in time and took him to the hospital for successful treatment. Currently, the child's health is improving.

Specialist Doctor Quach Tong Lai, in charge of the Pediatric Surgery Department, recommends that relatives should carefully remove fish bones before feeding children. In case of an unfortunate case of a child choking on a foreign object, the family must immediately take the child to the nearest medical facility and not treat it with folk remedies to avoid unfortunate situations./.
