Bustling highway construction sites "no break" during holidays

The April 30 - May 1 holiday this year lasted 5 days, but thousands of engineers and workers of Deo Ca Group still worked hard to maintain the increasingly hurried and urgent construction pace across all construction sites.

At the Huu Nghi - Chi Lang Expressway Project, taking advantage of the sunny weather, the construction unit of Deo Ca Group organized 182 construction teams, mobilizing 2,000 engineers, workers and more than 1,000 pieces of equipment.

According to the report of the Project Management Board, the current construction output has reached 925/6,580 billion VND. With high determination, contractors are accelerating towards the goal of completing the asphalt concrete layer by the end of 2025.

Mr. Tran Van Chuan, Deputy Director of the Huu Nghi - Chi Lang Expressway Project Management Board, shared: “There is still a lot of work to do, so we are determined to stay at the construction site and work through the holidays. The common spirit is to focus maximum resources on construction to meet the project's schedule of opening the route by the end of 2025.”

These days, the Dong Dang - Tra Linh highway construction site is always bustling with the sound of engines. Groups of motorbikes diligently travel back and forth like shuttles in the sweltering heat of the approaching summer.

Currently, the Dong Dang - Tra Linh Expressway construction site is concentrating more than 2,200 personnel and 1,141 machines and equipment, deploying 216 construction sites along the entire route. Just before that, Deo Ca Group (the leading investor of the consortium) proactively supported an additional 10% of the funding for contractors to supplement 79 construction sites, 212 equipment and 617 workers.

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuan - Deputy General Director of the Project Enterprise, up to now, the construction output of the Project has reached 2,409/10,438 billion VND (equivalent to 23% of the contract value). Contractors are mobilizing all resources to be able to open the Project phase 1 in December 2025 and are ready to start the Project phase 2 on September 2.

“This is a project that the people of the Cao Bang revolutionary base area are especially looking forward to. Therefore, despite many difficulties, we consider the opening of the route by the end of 2025 as an order from the heart. This morning (April 30), the construction sites only stopped for a moment for the brothers to salute the national flag, watch the parade on VTV1, and then immediately rushed back to the construction site,” said Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuan.

Towards the target of 3,000 km of highway

At the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway construction site - one of the largest component projects of the North - South Eastern Expressway Construction Investment Project in the 2021 - 2025 period, during the holidays of April 30 - May 1, the urgent working spirit of more than 3,500 cadres and workers along with 1,300 pieces of equipment and machinery at 50 construction sites was still burning.

By the end of April 2025, the construction output of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon Expressway Component Project had reached about VND 8,100 billion, equivalent to 60.5% of the total project volume. Deo Ca Group's plan is to complete the Project before December 31, 2025, shortening the progress by 7 months compared to the contract.

Currently, tunnels No. 1 and No. 2 on the route have completed construction and are being installed with equipment. At tunnel No. 3, which is over 3,200m long, the right tunnel (North-South direction) has been dug and cleared, the remaining tunnel is expected to be cleared in June 2025, with the tunnel lining concrete completed in October and equipment installation completed by the end of December 2025.

The main route embankment work will be completed in June, with more than 10 km of asphalt already laid. Other “backbone” items of the project, including 77 bridges, are also gradually taking shape.

According to the Project Management Board, there were some initial difficulties with weak geology and unfavorable weather, but the joint venture contractor implemented many technical solutions and flexibly organized construction to control progress, while closely reviewing and inspecting to ensure quality. The construction site maintained continuous construction 24/7, including holidays, with people and machines working in "3 shifts, 4 shifts".

At Package XL1 of the Eastern North-South Expressway Component Project, Chi Thanh - Van Phong section, 229 personnel and 76 pieces of machinery of Deo Ca Group are in a sprint race to the finish line as required by the Prime Minister .

The total output of Package XL1 has reached 1,530/1,845 billion VND, equivalent to 79%, exceeding the original plan by 8%. The slow adjustment of the arising design documents has caused certain difficulties, but the engineers and workers of Package XL1 have not been discouraged.

Mr. Truong Cong Dat, Director of the XL1 Package Management Board, said that engineers and workers at the Project always prioritize ensuring work progress. During the holidays, officers, engineers and workers do not take time off but are still on duty with the highest effort to complete the assigned tasks.

“The management board always accompanies the brothers on the construction site. In addition to all the regimes as prescribed, we always care for and encourage the brothers to compete to work during the April 30 - May 1 holidays,” said Mr. Dat.

Joy of working on the construction site

After more than 20 months of implementation, routes T1 and T2 under Package 6.12 of the Long Thanh International Airport Construction Investment Project implemented by the Deo Ca Group consortium, have taken shape.

These are two important traffic routes, connecting the airport with National Highway 51 and Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, contributing to promoting economic development and regional traffic.

The output of Package 6.12 has now reached 1,888/2,630 billion VND, equivalent to 80% of the contract value. Of which, the 4.3 km long T1 route is invested with a scale of 6 lanes, design speed of 80 km/h, ready for technical traffic on April 30.

At the construction site, 750 personnel and 20 pieces of equipment and machinery are being mobilized to deploy 20 construction projects on both routes, without holidays.

With the spirit of "overcoming the sun, overcoming the rain", the construction teams are making every effort to achieve the goal of completing the 3.5km long T2 route, with 4 lanes, a design speed of 100km/h by July 2025, and the entire Package 6.12 is expected to be completed and put into use on September 2, 2025, 3 months ahead of schedule compared to the contract.

At the Khanh Hoa - Buon Ma Thuot Expressway Project, Deo Ca Group has arranged 500 personnel and more than 100 pieces of equipment to simultaneously construct 16 points above to clear the Phuong Hoang tunnel in November 2025, complete the tunnel lining before March 2026 and complete the entire XL01 Package before December 31, 2026.

To overcome the hot weather with high temperatures that greatly affect health and limit outdoor working time, the Project Management Board has mobilized more human resources to take turns working, arranging reasonable shifts for effective and safe construction, while ensuring the health of workers. Nutritional foods are also added to the daily diet of engineers and workers.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy, General Director of Deo Ca Group, said that in order to meet the goal of completing key projects as expected by the Government, Ministries and localities, Deo Ca Group organized construction during the April 30 - May 1 holiday at construction sites.

“The treatment of staff and workers is guaranteed according to State regulations and the Group's policies. The leaders at the projects also directly follow the construction sites to both direct the construction to ensure progress, and care for and encourage the workers' spirit, sharing with staff and workers during these days so that they can work with peace of mind,” Mr. Huy added.
