The tournament, organized by the Department of Culture and Sports to celebrate major holidays in 2025, commemorates the 81st anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2025) and the 36th anniversary of the National Defense Day (December 22, 1989 - December 22, 2025). It brings together 13 teams and nearly 150 athletes from various localities and units. The teams have trained and prepared thoroughly, aiming for the best possible results. Athlete Danh Minh Thu from the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center team said: “We actively train to improve our techniques and tactics, especially our teamwork. The team also interacts with other teams to learn from their experiences.”
From the very first group stage matches, the provincial multi-purpose gymnasium was buzzing with excitement. On the court, the athletes competed fiercely. Every pass, every spike, kept the audience on the edge of their seats, sometimes tense with long rallies, other times erupting with decisive points. In the stands, the people and fans cheered enthusiastically, motivating the teams to push forward in each set. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, a resident of Rach Gia ward, said: “This year's volleyball tournament has featured many excellent and exciting matches. The teams coordinated well. Many athletes possess good ball-handling skills. The athletes demonstrated a spirit of fair play, creating a beautiful image on the court.”
After completing the group stage and holding the quarter-final matches, the organizing committee determined the four teams that advanced to the semi-finals. In semi-final 1, the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center team faced the Rach Gia Ward team; semi-final 2 was a match between the Cho Vam Commune team and the Giong Rieng Commune team. Having lost in the semi-finals, the Rach Gia Ward team and the Giong Rieng Commune team shared third place.
Entering the decisive championship match, with a well-balanced team and making good use of opportunities, the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center team won the first set. In the second set, needing to win, the Cho Vam commune team launched a variety of attacks. However, the athletes from the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center not only successfully neutralized their opponents' tactics but also launched effective counter-attacks, securing a convincing 2-0 victory to claim the championship.
The best setter of the tournament, Nguyen Quoc Thang, an athlete from the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center team, shared: “I am very happy to have won the final match with my teammates. Everyone tried their best in every match to win the championship.” The best outside hitter of the tournament, Le Tan Phat, an athlete from Cho Vam commune team, expressed: “It’s a little regrettable that we didn’t win the final match, but I and the whole team tried our best. Hopefully, the provincial sports sector will organize more high-quality tournaments, creating opportunities for volleyball enthusiasts to interact and learn.”
According to Tran Nguyen Ba, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, this year's men's volleyball tournament is of higher professional quality than in previous years, thanks to thorough preparation by the participating teams. The tournament not only provides a beneficial playground for volleyball enthusiasts but also contributes to promoting the nationwide movement of physical training following the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh, building a healthy cultural life and a spirit of solidarity within the community. At the same time, it creates opportunities for athletes to interact, learn from each other's experiences, improve their physical fitness, and enhance their health.
