The event is part of the exhibition Echoes of the Great Spring Victory 1975 in cinema, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification . The Wild Field has just been announced as one of the 50 typical literary and artistic works of the city in the past 50 years. The film was directed by People's Artist Hong Sen and released in 1979. Set in the Dong Thap Muoi flood season, the work revolves around the lives of the couple Ba Do (People's Artist Lam Toi) - Sau Xoa (Thuy An), who played the role of liaison for the liberation army. The Wild Field won the Golden Lotus Award at the 1980 Vietnam Film Festival and the Gold Medal at the 1981 Moscow International Film Festival.

Attention-grabbing details in 'The Wild Field'

At the event, discussing the success of Wild Fields and the challenges of making historical films, Ms. Duong Cam Thuy - President of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association said that this is a topic that is not suitable for many viewers, so "it is necessary to show the image of a simple, straightforward and profound soldier". "In particular, we should not be too tense or exaggerated, but should express it in the most authentic way", Ms. Thuy shared.

In addition, according to Ms. Duong Cam Thuy, the details in the film are also something to pay attention to. Taking the example of the film Wild Field , the President of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association said that the scene where Ba Do and his wife put their child in a plastic bag and dropped it into the water to avoid the bomb is a valuable detail that impresses viewers.

However, Ms. Duong Cam Thuy revealed: “But there was a controversial detail in the censorship board, which was when the American pilot died, the photo of his wife and children fell out of his shirt pocket. There were opinions that that scene should be cut, but director Hong Sen did not cut it. I would like to say that it was a very valuable detail in the film that everyone later loved.”

Wild Field was made in 1979. Ms. Duong Cam Thuy said that making films in the early years after liberation encountered many difficulties, lacking in funding, equipment, etc. “But our advantage is the passion of all filmmakers. Especially for director Hong Sen, his passion for his profession is a virtue that we learn forever. Another important thing is the support of local people. Everyone loves cinema, so wherever the film crew goes, they get support,” Ms. Duong Cam Thuy said.

The Wild Fields was well received by the audience.

At the premiere, Wild Fields received a lot of attention and acceptance from the audience. Many people even sat on the ground to watch the work of director Hong Sen, which moved the organizers.

When talking about making films about historical themes, the President of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Association said that learning and listening to stories about the war, meeting living witnesses, etc. are necessary. “We must focus on the audience, know what kind of film they want to watch and love, and from there create a complete work,” said Ms. Duong Cam Thuy.

According to Mr. Huynh Cong Khoi Nguyen - Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Cinema Culture House - popularizing timeless films such as Wild Fields, Flip Cards... with young audiences is necessary. In addition to the community film screening event at Nguyen Hue walking street, the organizers previously held screenings and exchanges with historical witnesses at universities. "That is how we want to bring films about revolutionary wars to everyone, especially the young," said Mr. Khoi Nguyen.
