Losing 10 kg in 1 month, the girl went to the doctor and discovered she had severe complications of type 2 diabetes.

On March 7, a source from Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital said that the hospital's doctors had successfully treated a female patient with severe complications of type 2 diabetes.

Previously, Ms. NTB (25 years old, living in Hau Giang province) had lost 10 kg of weight abnormally in 1 month, so her family took her to the hospital for emergency care. Ms. B. was hospitalized with symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, fatigue, thirst, frequent urination, and impaired perception.

Severe complications of diabetes caused Ms. NTB to lose 10 kg in 1 month.

After examination and necessary tests, the doctor diagnosed the patient with early-onset type 2 diabetes, accompanied by complications of ketoacidosis (a dangerous condition caused by severe insulin deficiency), acute kidney failure and pneumonia.

Doctors promptly treated him with intravenous fluids, controlled his blood sugar with insulin, and closely monitored him. After 2 days, the patient recovered, became alert, and was treated stably at the Inpatient Department.

How to prevent diabetes

Dr. Thach Thi Phola, Deputy Head of the Department of Cardiology, Hoan My Cuu Long General Hospital, said that to prevent diabetes, people need to maintain a healthy diet, limit sugar, fast starch, eat lots of green vegetables, fiber and nutritious foods; exercise regularly, at least 30 minutes a day to maintain a reasonable weight and increase insulin sensitivity; have regular health check-ups; limit stress, because prolonged stress can disrupt blood sugar, easily leading to diabetes.

According to Dr. Thach Thi Phola, statistics from the Ministry of Health show that Vietnam has about 7 million people with diabetes, of which more than 55% have complications. Worryingly, the disease no longer only occurs in the elderly but is increasingly common in young people, even under 30 years old. The main causes are a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy diet with too much fast food, carbonated soft drinks, prolonged stress and lack of sleep.
