On the morning of November 19, on the top of Phu Sa Phin (Bac Yen district, Son La), a thin layer of ice covered the rocks and tree branches, creating a rare cold white scene. These images were recorded by Phang Ga (30 years old, a local who specializes in guiding mountain climbers in the Northwest region) at 8:00 a.m., while leading a trekking group.
Sharing with Tri Thuc - Znews , Ga said the weather became cold since the evening of November 18, "cold since last night, freezing this morning". By morning, frost appeared clearly at the highest area of the peak.
Born and raised in the mountainous region of Son La, and often leading tourists to conquer the roads of the Ta Xua - Phu Sa Phin range, Phang Ga said he was really surprised. Normally, snow or ice only appears around January, when the North enters winter.

“Since I was a child, this is the first time I have encountered ice this early in November. At this time, trekking tourists mainly hunt clouds and watch the sunrise, but I didn’t expect to encounter ice and snow,” he shared.
Not only the tour guide, but also the tourists in the group were excited about the rare scene. Most of the tourists chose Phu Sa Phin in late autumn - early winter to hunt for the sea of clouds, admire the sunrise on the majestic mountain range and enjoy the cold air. The unexpected "encounter of ice" right on the journey made many people feel like they were in the middle of a real winter, while the calendar had only entered the last days of autumn.
In the northern mountain passes, ice and snow do not appear often, so the chance to encounter this phenomenon is always considered very lucky by trekking enthusiasts.
Some local people and other guides in the Northwest mountains also expressed surprise at this cold spell. Giang A Chay, a local and trekking guide, said that this is the peak season for conquering the Northwest mountain passes, lasting from October to about April next year.

Visitors often come here to climb mountains, sleep in tents, hunt clouds, and sometimes camp.
“Encountering frost is rare, so when it appears this early, everyone is surprised and happy. But that also means we have to remind guests to prepare more carefully with warm clothes, gloves, woolen hats, and avoid being subjective because they think it is only the beginning of the cold season,” he said.
Phu Sa Phin is currently one of the mountain peaks that is especially loved by trekking enthusiasts. Belonging to the Ta Xua range, this area was formerly commonly called Ta Xua and is famous for its rolling sea of clouds and the dawn rising over the mountain range shaped like a dinosaur's spine.
The altitude of nearly 2,800-2,900 m above sea level with steep terrain, many rocky outcrops and primeval forests has helped this place be known as the new "trekking paradise" in the Northwest. On beautiful days, visitors can simultaneously hunt clouds, watch the sunset, sunrise and admire the valleys below immersed in white mist.
According to the weather forecast, in Bac Yen area, Son La, on November 19, the sky will be cloudy, the highest temperature will be around 15°C and the lowest at night will be around 9°C, the air will be quite cold and humid.
On November 20, the weather is forecast to be warmer, with the highest temperature reaching around 19°C and the lowest around 10°C, but the temperature difference between day and night is still large, and high mountainous areas may feel the cold more clearly than lowland areas.
