Following the Lunar New Year, many farms and livestock breeders in the province have stepped up restocking efforts in a controlled manner, paying attention to disease prevention and control, and ensuring supply meets market demand.

Le Van Tinh's livestock farm in Bach Thuan commune (Vu Thu district).

Bach Thuan commune (Vu Thu district) has a long tradition of livestock farming, with a total pig population of 15,000. As one of the large-scale pig farms in the area, the farm of Mr. Le Van Tinh's family recently sold 400 pigs to meet the demand of people during the Lunar New Year. Immediately after selling the pigs, his family cleaned the barns, sprayed disinfectant, and applied lime powder to sanitize them.

Mr. Tinh said: "Restocking is usually concentrated between January and March each year, which is the transitional period between seasons. Therefore, to restock safely, it is necessary to strengthen disease prevention and control. Regarding breeding stock, my family maintains a breeding herd to ensure a quality source of piglets. After the Lunar New Year, my family restocked with 300 pigs, and the herd is currently developing well."

With a regular poultry farming operation maintaining a flock of 4,000 chickens, Mr. Vu Van Phuoc's family in Duyen Hai commune (Hung Ha district) has now restocked with over 1,500 chickens. According to Mr. Phuoc, to ensure safe and efficient farming, after selling the chickens during the Tet holiday, the family leaves the coop empty for a week to clean it thoroughly. As for the chicks, the family imports them from reputable companies and farms and ensures they receive all necessary vaccinations.

Mr. Pham Thanh Nhuong, Head of the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Medicine, said: To ensure the safety of livestock restocking, the Department has directed the livestock and veterinary stations in districts and cities to strengthen disease surveillance, proactively disseminate information to livestock farmers about vaccinating their livestock, and applying biosecurity measures in livestock farming. In particular, livestock farmers need to prepare barns to ensure hygiene, disinfection, and sterilization before bringing in breeding stock; barns must be suitable for each type of livestock. In addition, the specialized agency focuses on disseminating information and providing technical training to farmers on safe restocking practices. Emphasis is placed on developing livestock farming in a biosecure manner, introducing high - value specialty breeds into the farming system.

According to experts, when restocking, attention should be paid to the quality of breeding stock, maintaining the parent stock to ensure a source of high-quality, traceable breeding stock. When importing breeding stock from outside, it is advisable to research reputable establishments. After purchasing breeding stock, it is necessary to proactively administer all required vaccinations and apply biosecurity-oriented farming practices to limit disease outbreaks. During the initial stages of raising, it is crucial to regularly monitor the health of the livestock to proactively implement disease prevention and treatment measures. For livestock farmers, restocking after Tet (Lunar New Year) is an important step to maintain the scale of farming, stabilize production, and ensure supply to meet market demand. However, with the current severe cold weather, farmers need to be cautious in restocking to prevent and control diseases and protect the health of their livestock. In addition, localities need to strengthen state management of breeding and livestock production and trading establishments, and enhance local breeding capacity to ensure the availability of breeding stock at reasonable prices during the production process.

The Tuyet Thoa poultry hatchery in Thuy Viet commune (Thai Thuy district) guarantees the supply of quality chicks to livestock farmers.
