On June 10, the Paraguayan government said hackers attacked President Santiago Pena's official X account to post a fake statement allowing bitcoin as legal currency in the country.
According to Information and Communications Technology Minister Gustavo Villate, hackers used "relatively advanced techniques" to break into Mr. Pena's account with the motive of making money in bitcoin.
Authorities have deleted the fake message and identified the perpetrator.
The incident comes weeks after the CyberTeam group claimed responsibility for attacks on the information systems of several Paraguayan state agencies.
In the face of increasing cyber attacks, the Ministry of Information and Communications has decided to suspend the plan to launch the National Cyber Security Strategy 2025-2028 scheduled to take place this week./.
