According to the Northern Airport Authority, after receiving information about the runway crack at Vinh airport, the unit immediately notified relevant parties and the Civil Aviation Authority. Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), the airport operator, is currently working with relevant parties and Vinh International Airport to develop a plan to remedy the situation. Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation also announced the temporary closure of Vinh airport.

In addition, in the morning of the same day, some flights of airlines to Vinh airport had to change their landing location to Thanh Hoa airport. It is expected that during the day, there will be about 40 flights arriving/departing from Vinh airport.

Earlier, on the morning of July 3, the runway at Vinh airport had an accident when a large part of the asphalt concrete surface peeled off. The incident affected schedules and led to the cancellation of several flights.

At that time, there were 4 flights taking place normally. However, when a flight from Vinh to Ho Chi Minh City was about to take off, a large part of the runway was discovered to be cracked.

By around 10:30 a.m., Vinh International Airport was unable to receive any flights. This incident forced several airline flights to change their landing direction to Thanh Hoa Airport.

It is known that the runway of Vinh International Airport has been put into use since late 2003. However, the combination of prolonged hot weather and recent continuous rain in Nghe An may be the cause of the above incident./.
