Strengthening the work of ensuring power grid safety corridors

With more than 3,400 km of medium and high voltage lines and 1,871 transformer stations, serving more than 221 thousand customers across the province, every year, Lao Cai Electricity Company has deployed many measures to ensure the safety corridor of the power grid, especially the high voltage grid. Thereby preventing incidents, helping the power supply to take place safely and stably.

On May 6, 2025, a 5th grade student in Hom Duoi village, Nam Chay commune, Van Ban district climbed a 35 kV high voltage electric pole to catch a bird's nest and was seriously injured by electric shock. Although he was taken to the emergency room in time, the incident once again reflected the serious lack of awareness of electrical safety in the community, especially among school-age children. It is worth mentioning that in the area where the accident occurred, there were full warning signs of danger and "no climbing" installed according to technical standards.

Ensuring the safety corridor of the power grid contributes to ensuring production and safety for the community.

Not only stopping at isolated incidents, statistics from Lao Cai Electricity Company show that in just the first 5 months of 2025, the whole province had 15 incidents of violating the power grid safety corridor, of which 3 were caused by children flying kites getting entangled in power lines, 3 were caused by construction vehicles damaging underground cables, electrical equipment... In addition, a number of accidents arose from the use of wooden winch cables or broken telecommunication cables that flew onto the power grid, causing the risk of short circuit, fire, and explosion.

All incidents have in common that they originate from the subjectivity, lack of awareness or violation of regulations by the people and civil construction units. The consequences are not only economic losses, interruption of electricity supply, but can also cause serious risks to human life.

Bac Ha Electricity propagates to ensure safe electrical corridor to people.

In order to cope with the above situation, units under Lao Cai Electricity Company have simultaneously deployed many solutions from increasing periodic inspections, coordinating with local authorities to propagate at the grassroots level, signing commitments with people on managing crops near the power grid corridor, distributing leaflets, and installing warning signs at key locations.

Mr. Tran Van Thoan, Director of Bac Ha Power Company said: We are managing 557 km of medium voltage lines, 220 transformer stations and nearly 450 km of low voltage lines. To protect the safety of the corridor, the unit has clearly assigned responsibilities, increased inspections and promptly handled potential violations.

Bac Ha Electricity also actively cooperates with the authorities from district to village to organize direct communication sessions, distribute leaflets, erect warning signs, and sign commitments with people. In particular, propaganda work is widely deployed to schools, contributing to raising awareness right from school age.

Teacher Ngo Thuy Duong, Principal of Ta Van Chu Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Bac Ha District) shared: We include electrical safety content in extracurricular activities, and at the same time distribute propaganda materials to students before summer vacation, asking them to propagate in their families and communities.

After the propaganda session, students of Ta Van Chu Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities pledged to propagate to their relatives to ensure electrical safety.

Lao Cai Electricity Company currently manages more than 3,400 km of medium and high voltage lines and 1,871 transformer stations, serving more than 221,000 customers across the province. Protecting the safety of power grid corridors is not only the responsibility of the electricity industry, but also requires the cooperation of authorities at all levels, mass organizations and people.

According to Decree 17/2022/ND-CP, the fine for violations of power grid safety corridors ranges from 5 million VND to 100 million VND, depending on the severity. Common violations such as climbing electric poles, flying kites, illegal construction, cutting down dangerous trees or digging near the base of electric poles are all strictly handled.

Power workers attach safety warning signs to tall trees that are at risk of falling onto power lines.

The message “Power grid safety corridor - everyone’s responsibility” is not just a reminder but needs to become awareness and concrete action in every family, every residential area, every school. Every proper behavior towards the power grid contributes to protecting the safety of yourself, your family and the community.

Lao Cai Electricity Company hopes that authorities at all levels, mass organizations and people will continue to coordinate closely and enhance their sense of responsibility in protecting the safety of the power grid corridor, for the stable and sustainable development of the province.
